Exciting New Zero2Tri Programme

Lanesboro Triathlon Club are launching their very first Zero2Tri programme with the objective of taking beginners in all or any of the three disciplines and developing them into triathletes ready to compete in the Two Provinces Triathlon in June 2018. Or if you just wish to join the club to train or compete at any one of the three disciplines.
What the Tri club are interested in are potential members of all abilities and ambitions. As a club there are members for 8 years to 65+, varying from those competing at a national level to those interested in keeping active and meeting new people and all in between.
For anyone interested in taking part they have the option to attend three of Lanesboro Tri Club training sessions before becoming a club member.
To become a triathlete, you do not need anything more than your usual gym or training clothes and any bike! Once open water swimming begins in May/June a wetsuit is needed but not until then. It is a common myth that there is a need for different types of clothing, bikes etc. Come along on the evening and all this will be gone through with you.
As part of the Zero2Tri programme the club has allocated additional coaching specifically for new members with the intention of developing new members. Of course, if a member is for example a strong runner and a weak swimmer they can join the experienced run group and the beginner swim group where they will benefit for a smaller athlete to coach ratio and more focused coaching.
In addition to the beginner focused coaching the club will also provide the following to all new members:
– Beginner triathlete training programme
– Club mentor if required
– Training races
– Club target races – Club lists races and events which they intend to target throughout the season
– Run training – Friday, Lanesboro track
– Bike/turbo training – Wednesday, Lanesboro Co Op Hall,
– Swim Training – Monday, Roscommon swimming pool
Following on from the launch night anyone interested is invited to attend any of the following open training sessions or please contact us via Facebook mail:
– Run – Friday 19th January 8PM, Lanesboro track
– Bike/turbo training – Wednesday 17th 7PM, Lanesboro Co Op Hall,
– Swim Training – Monday 15th January 9PM, Roscommon swimming pool

Few CDs available

The St. Mary Church Choir has sold very well over the Christmas period and there are just a few remaining. This is a young group of talented musicians and singers all from the locality. It is an outstanding CD and it shows the talent of the choir. The CDs are available in shops locally and are a must for people home and away.

Lough Ree AC

Well, Christmas has come and gone and the so has the annual Christmas run from Newtowncashel to Lanesboro, the results of which maybe elsewhere in this newspaper. There was quite a good turnout despite the inclement weather. The winner proved to be local – Martin Gillen, what a pleasant surprise! The numbers from the Club’s run from the Community Collage to the Parish hall for the younger brigade was disappointing to say the least. However, the conditions did not stop Sean O’Dowd from being first to the hall. Well done Sean! Moving up the age groups, the Flood cousins, Caoilinn and Alannah did themselves proud to finish the Cashel run.

The “golden oldie” of the day, must be Padraic Farrell. Yes, a younger brother of Willie, the same Willie won more titles than I care to mention.  Enough to say, he wore an Irish singlet, representing the Irish Schools in cross country running, won the national Community Games title for the marathon (U17) in Monsey and was later high-jacked by Mullingar Harriers for their Senior CC Team. This is not forgetting that sister Mary was selected on an Irish junior team for an international fixture in Ireland.  The writer saw Padraic beat his older brother regularly when training at Rathcline’s old football pitch.  Both boys represented the club at its first outing in 1973 in different age groups.  Have not seen Padraic run since??

Finally, the Club wish to express their thanks to all who contributed to our church gate collection, it was greatly appreciated.  Meeting Johnny Chalmers was an added bonus, another story for another day

The annual AGM will take place later this month, date and time to be confirmed, looking forward to seeing parents both old and new.

Happy New Year to All.

Rathcline GAA

50/50

On Monday night 18th December the 50/50 pool stood at €280 and the winning envelope drawn in the Clarke’s Bar was Caroline Cullen, Rathcline Road.

On Tuesday 26th December the draw took place in Adie’s bar. The total pool amounted to €400 and the lucky envelope drawn was in the name of Olive Ginty, Ballyleague.

The third draw over the Christmas took place on Monday 1st January in the Peer Inn, Lisnacusha. The pool last week amounted to €260 and the winning envelope belonged to Patricia Brady, Church View

The onus is on everyone in the club minor club and senior club, players and parents to come together and sell just 5 tickets each at their work places and make this draw a really substantial amount each week. This draw has the potential at only €2 a ticket to be a big boost to the winner each week if we really put our shoulder to the wheel. Let’s make Monday night a night to look forward to each week for the coming year.

Rathcline wish everyone the very best for a happy and healthy 2018 and look forward to your support.

County team

Presently the county senior team under the guidance of team manager Denis Connerton are going very well in the O’Byrne Cup. While two of our panellists Liam Connerton and Shane Kenny are out injured it is great to see Shane Donohoe flying the club flag. We wish all the lads the very best for the coming season.

AGM

The club AGM will take place in early February and we would encourage everyone that has an interest in the club to put their thoughts and ideas together, bring them to the meeting and help drive the club forward in a major way in 2018.
