Back again with old Chestnut

I am back at it again! The more I write about it the worse it seems to get. There has been a huge number of complaints coming in about the two old chestnuts that keep cropping up in the town. The first one it the amount of people not cleaning up the footpaths after their dogs soiling. It is very easy to have a small plastic bag with you to clean up after your dogs and leave the footpaths clear for people to walk. The blight was once confined to the main thoroughfare, but it has now spread to the pathways on the Rathcline Road and the footpath down from the Church to the Longford Road and back into the town. It was during last week that a lady brought to my attention of dog soiling on graves in Clonbonny. This is really the last straw and it is a shame on people that allow this happen and not clean up.

Please be respectful and ensure you clean up after your dog.

The other chestnut is the parking around the church and the Green area and the road down by the side of the church. Please ensure that you do not block the entrances to the Green. When you are parking there please bear in mind of an emergency service vehicle trying to get through. Also, keep the pathways coming down to the road clear as from time to time the end of the pathway is blocked and there is no access for people using wheelchairs. The roadway down at the side of the church should have only parking on one side as the emergency services cannot access the road with parking on both sides. Just leave the side next to Ferguson’s house clear down as far as their gate where the road widens. Thank you.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Elaine and Junior Hannon and family, Meadowbrook, Ballyleague on the death of Elaine’s father Pat Dolan, Portrun, Roscommon on Friday last 18th May.

Locals out in the Championship

Roscommon begin their Championship campaign on Saturday and we would like to wish the Murtagh Brothers, Ciaran and Diarmuid, Ballyleague, the very best of luck on Saturday when Roscommon travel to Carrick on Shannon to play Leitrim in the Connacht Championship semi-final. The game will have a throw in time of 5.30pm.

On Sunday next Longford will open their Leinster Championship campaign when they will take on Meath. The game has a 3pm throw in and we would like to wish Denis Connerton and his team management and Shane Kenny, Shane Donohoe and Liam Connerton and their fellow panel members the very best of luck.

On Monday the county U20 team will take on Dublin again in Pearse Park. This game will have a 7pm throw in time. We would like to wish our representatives on the panel Iarla O’Sullivan and Cian Gilmore and the panel members the very best of luck.

We would encourage all our locals and supporters to go to Pearse Park and Páirc Seán Mac Diarmada to support both teams and hopefully we can have a triple success over the weekend.

The ongoing work stand in Pearse Park means that a good portion of the stand will be open for the game and if you wish to avail of a stand seat or a terrace ticket please make sure you purchase it in the county secretary’s office in Pearse Park as early as possible or on www.gaa.ie.

Another Great Weekend

Last weekend we had the Horse Fair and this past weekend we had two events happening. From Friday morning we had Motorhomes/Camper Vans descending on the car park for a weekend rally. Somewhere in the region of 4o plus filled the car park, the green area behind the hall and also the parking area at the small harbour. They brought great life and excitement to the town throughout the weekend.

All day Saturday the sound of motorbikes created a constant hum in the town as the passed through to Lisnacusha where on Saturday and Saturday night they held a rally at The Pier Rakish Paddy. By all accounts a great time was held by everyone.

It is great to see constant events happening in and around Lanesboro and hopefully many more will happen as we go in the summer months.
