The Green
The photos are starting to come in and I would encourage anyone else that has photographs of the Green, and stories to contact me. I am looking for all photographs of all residents of the Green right up to the present day – just a flick on your phone, camera, iPad and forward it to me at joea@iol.ie. If you do not have a family picture perhaps you can forward me individual pictures and the house number you live/d in. If you don’t have a photograph from your time on the Green a family photograph from a later date will do. I am also looking for photograph of the apprentices and lodgers that stayed on the Green. You can also drop them into me in the shop where I will scan them and return them to you a minute later.
New Defibrillator Course
A new Defibrillator course will take place in the very near future and the organisers are urgently seeking many new people to take the opportunity of getting trained in the use of defibrillators. As this is a down time it is important that all clubs and organisations on both sides of the bridge encourage their members to attend and get trained up.
Rarely a day goes by in a workplace, sporting events or in public places that a person’s knowledge in the use of the defibrillator in not required hence the great need to have all area and events covered with people with the required knowledge.

Death
The parish was brought to a standstill when we learned of the death at her residence in Thureen of Mary Hurson, nee Farrell on Wednesday last 30th January. Everyone that knew Mary says that she was immediately recognisable with the warmest and friendliest smile. Mary would instantly light up any room such was the warmth of her personality. Mary was small in stature, but she was huge in everything she done. No task was to large or too small for her. She was recognised as a very hard worker and a wonderful and supportive neighbour and friend never leaving anyone stuck in their time of need. She was a caring wife and mother and wonderful family woman. Mary was ill for a long time, but such was the character of the woman that she never let it get the better of her or diminish her personality. Mary will be very sadly missed by all of us that had the pleasure to know her.
Mary’s remains reposed in Glennon’s Funeral Home on Thursday last. On Friday her remains were removed to St. Mary’s Church for her Funeral Mass which was followed by burial in Rathcline Cemetery. To her husband John, daughter Michelle, sons Paul and Alan, aunt Tess, relatives and many many friends we extend our sincere sympathy.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
Preparations for the Lanesborough/Ballyleague St. Patrick’s Day Parade has now commenced, and the Parade will take place on St. Patrick’s Day 17th March commencing at St. Faithleach’s Clubhouse at 2.30pm sharp 9Starting time will not change).
Tickets for the raffle will be on sale throughout Lanesborough and Ballyleague in all businesses. Further details will follow in the next week

Church Gate Collection
The annual Lourdes Sick Pilgrimage fund collection will take place at all Masses next weekend Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th February. Down you’re the years your contributions have been most generous as the committee help people in communities to travel to Lourdes on the Ardagh Clonmacnois Pilgrimage. Many people in our parish have been fortunate to avail of the Pilgrimage through your generous contributions and we look once again towards your generosity.
Longford Horticulture Training
Longford Horticulture is a free Longford Westmeath Educational Training Board funded training course for people who wish to explore Horticultural work options and update or develop new skills. It is particularly suited to persons on Social Welfare Allowance with short or long term health difficulties or for early school leavers interested in acquiring a profession. This is a production much sought after, and it was a very lucky thing that the Minor Club got their ‘spake’ in on time to ensure we would be fortunate enough to have it. The following is a synopsis of the play: A play about an ordinary man living in rural Ireland who gets saved… Saved from a life of pub talk and prophesising. King John O’Sullivan used to be able to drink fifteen pints without having to piddle, now, it’s every nine. Going to the Gents so often can wear a man out. The story is told by the Reverend Thaddaeus Clancy and O’Sullivan’s two sons, Larry O and Martin. The sons run the family shop while Daddy, the King of McKenna’s Bar makes up the rules. It’s a story of hard work and success and dangling. There’s bad driving and ice hockey and there’s falling down. When the ‘Divel’ starts to gnaw, the kingdom will fall.
Table Quiz

Student, Padraig Sorohan is organising a table quiz in Rosie’s on Friday 1st
March at 9.30pm in aid of his upcoming trip to Haiti. Padraig plans to spend
the month of July working in North West Haiti with a poverty-stricken community
in an educational setting. All support would be very much appreciated.

The Clonbonny Road Run took place on Sunday as usual, well done to the hardy souls who turned up in the cold to get a run in. Callum Farrell was the first man home in a very fast time well under 10 mins, but Kieran O’Dowd is still the fastest runner over the distance in recent weeks. Congratulations to Daragh Donlon who completed his 14th successive road run, a new record. We are just trying to finalise a date for our AGM which will take place before the end of the month. More details to follow.
Called Off
Due to the inclement weather the organisers of the Lanesboro Social Services Whist game due to take place on Friday night last was called off. The committee thanks you for your patience and looks forward to seeing you all and your card playing friends on Friday 1st March.
Dinner Dance
This year we see the return of the Rathcline GAA Dinner Dance on Saturday night 16th February in the Longford Arms Hotel.
This night out was always the occasion of the year and apart from Santa Claus it was the most looked forwarded event of the year. It was the occasion to dress up and have a local evening in wonderful surroundings and in the company of local people.
This year it is also a cause for celebration as there will be the presentation of the Intermediate Championship and Under 21 medals to the victorious teams.
Tickets are available in O’Brien’s costing a reasonable €40 for a four-course meal and a wonderful night’s entertainment provided by Rhythm & Sticks who are packing the crowds in no matter where they go.
The club looks forward to a huge number from the parish attending and looks forward to a good number of former players and residents returning for the night.
Come along, enjoy the night and let’s create a night to be remembered and one that will be the start of a wonderful parish night out once again.

The aim of this 4 week programme is to encourage
joint play between a parent and their toddler. Activities will include
soft ball games, movement to music and parachute games. These activities
will develop fundamental motor skills, spatial awareness, manipulative skills,
co-ordination and balancing skills and develop a positive attitude to physical
activity. The programme will involve a trained and garda vetted sports
tutor attending and leading a fun, physical activity session for 1 hour a week.

The Lanesboro Tidy Towns Lottery draw took place on Tuesday morning last on the Co-Op office. There was no winner of the €15,000, jackpot and the jackpot for this week, will now rise to reach and the jackpot has now reached its maximum of €15,000. The numbers drawn were 5, 12, 18 and 24. Pride of place this week goes to the under 16 team who
just got the better of Gaels United in a seven-goal thriller. Eoin Farrell
snatched a dramatic winner in injury time with a well-placed header from a Rian
Murphy corner. The other Ballyboro goals were scored by Kevin Tansey (2) and

The weather proved to be a real spoilsport on Saturday as the

The club will be running a bus to the Ireland-Georgia
European qualifier in the Aviva next month.
Fixtures: There will be an under 8 blitz in Lanesboro on
Saturday starting at 11am. Teams taking part are Ballyboro, Stonepark and Inny
Fc.
The under 10s play UCL Rhinos at home on Saturday at
12 noon.
Also on Saturday in the Premier Division Shield, the under
13s are at home to Melview, kick off 2.30.
The under 12s play their second game in the Major Division
Championship on Sunday at 2pm at home to Newtown Bears.

Defibrillator training
The club needs people that are interested in helping the club by completing the defibrillator course to take place in January. The need for people to have training done in the use of the defibrillator is essential at all grades especially with all the games and training in Clonbonny.
