Lanesboro Ballyleague notes Monday 2nd July 2018

Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Night at the Dogs

Our community is renowned for great ‘Night at the Dogs’ and on Friday night next 6th July we will once again have a ‘Night at the Dogs’ in support of the Lough Ree Monster Festival.

There is nothing like the atmosphere created at Longford Greyhound Track and we would encourage everyone to come along. Remember you only benefit the Festival by buying your tickets before you go to the races.

The Lough Ree Monster Festival invites you to join with us on Friday night and have another great night at the dogs.

Tickets priced at €10 each are available from Catherine Kelly, James O’Flaherty, Diane Walsh, Caroline Gray, Teresa Ormsby, Tracy Gray, Michael Greene, or in O’Brien’s.

Win €300

Buster tickets for the Buster Race at the Night at the Dogs are on sale at €2 each and you have the chance of winning €300 if you have the correct finishing combination. Tickets are on sale in O’Brien’s or from committee members.

Thank You

The local branch of the Samaritans would like to sincerely thank everyone for their generous contributions of €571.68 at their Church Gate collection last week.

Two Provinces Triathlon 2018

Lanesboro Triathlon Club are holding the “Two Provinces Kidathon” on Friday 13th July and the “Two Provinces Triathlon” on Saturday 14th July in the village of Ballyleague/Lanesboro and surrounding areas.

This year’s event is both a National Series and Super Series event and is expecting to attract around 500 competitors. The large number of competitors and supporters, along with road closures during the races means there will be some traffic disruption:

Friday 13th July: General disruption between 5:30pm and 9:00pm due to people traveling to and participating in the kids’ race.

There will be restricted access to the Rathcline Rd between 7.30pm and 8.30pm. The kids cycle takes place on this road between the entrance to quarry and Harold’s Cross.

Saturday 14th July: General disruption between 7:30am and 3:00pm due to people traveling to and participating in the adult race.

To ensure safety of competitors, Roscommon County Council have granted a road closure order for the R371 Strokestown Rd (Ballyleague to Scramogue) between 10.45am and 2.00 pm. The cycle part of our race takes place on this road.

The cycle will also result in some disruption on the N63 from the Lanesboro Parish Hall to the Slieve Bawn Hotel between 10.45am-2.00pm.

Additionally, there will be restricted access to the Rathcline Rd between 11.30am and 2.30 pm. The adult run takes place on this road between the entrance to quarry and Harold’s Cross.

The club would like to thank everyone for their cooperation and support and we invite everyone to come along to cheer on the athletes. This is a big event for the area!

Call for Marshals: The event cannot run smoothly and so successfully without the help of the local volunteers on the day. If you would like to lend a hand and enjoy the atmosphere of race day, please drop your name into Joe O’Brien’s Corner Shop and we will be in touch… In the evening, we will be hosting a post-race party with spot prizes for the marshals to round off what we hope will be another successful race day.

Two Provinces Aquathon 2018

Lanesboro Triathlon Club are holding the Two Provinces Aquathon on Wednesday 4th July. It is the final event of the Midlands Aquathon Series, so we’re expecting a good crowd of athletes looking to pick up their final points and help their clubs compete for this year’s title.

The run will be held on the Rathcline road and for reasons of safety, between 7:30pm to 8:30pm, traffic on the road will be marshalled and directed by An Garda Síochána.
