If you would like to lend a hand and enjoy the atmosphere of race day, please drop your name into Joe O’Brien’s Corner Shop, phone 3321107, and we will be in touch… In the evening, we will be hosting a post-race party with spot prizes for the marshals to round off what we hope will be another successful race day.

History Makers

On Saturday last in O’Moore Park, Portlaoise Roscommon senior footballers had a tremendous win over Armagh in a hugely entertaining game of football in Round 4 of the Qualifiers. This victory creates its own piece of history as Roscommon were the first team through to the new championship format the Super 8’s. Leading the way towards victory were local brothers Ciaran and Diarmuid Murtagh both of whom scored 6 points each. The lads are sons of Andy and Breda Murtagh, Strokestown Road who are rightly proud of their achievements and the entire community along with their club St. Faithleach’s are fully supportive of them and their achievements.

Good luck to the lads and their team mantes and team management in the Super 8’s that commence on Saturday next with the opening game in Croke Park at 5pm against Tyrone

Winner

The winner of the Buster prize at the Lough Ree Monster Festival ‘Night at the Dogs’ was Hilary O’Sullivan, Main St. Hilary was the winner of €300.

Thank You

The local branch of the Samaritans would like to thank everyone that help out with their recent Church Gate collection.

Two Provinces Triathlon this Saturday

With glorious weather in prospect next weekend and with over 600 participants coming to Lanesboro to take part the Two Province Triathlon it promises to be a wonderful and colourful occasion. Connacht Final on Friday

The roads leading to Hyde Park Roscommon should be very busy on Friday evening next when Roscommon U17 team will take on Galway in the Connacht U17 Final. At the time of writing there is no confirmed time for the throw in.

Our community has an interest on both team with Liam Ormsby son of Steve and Teresa Ormsby and James Browne, son of Declan and Patricia Browne will play leading roles for the Roscommon side. On the Galway side former Rathcline great Cosmos Gilmore, who has been doing great work at underage over a number of years, will be part of the Galway management team hoping to plot the downfall of Roscommon. Cosmos is a selector/coach with the team.

We look forward to a great and exciting game. It would be fabulous to see a huge local crowd cheering on the lads.

Farewell Fergie

In recent times Fergie Feeney had been in failing health. His illness brought great sadness in the entire community and each day everyone’s concern was for Fergie’s wellbeing. He returned from England a number of years ago and he fell into the ways of his home patch as if he had never been away. Upon his return he resided in his homestead in Knock. He was a character with a soft and caring personality. He was obliging and helpful to everyone and his passing leaves us all the poorer but richer from the time we had with him throughout his life. He was an adorable man. Fergie was a founder member of the legendary ‘Hop group’ that held Hops in the hall on Sunday nights during the late 60’s and early 70’s. Fergie wherever he went always left a happy and pleasant memory. He had music in his heart and he loved to express it in song. Fergie was part of the Shannon Tones who released a CD a few years back, he was a poet and wrote poetry for many various people and occasions, Fergie was a reader at mass a number of months each year. Overall there is nothing but happiness in your mind and heart when you think of Fergie you will never be alone. Fergie passed away in the Rose Lodge Nursing Home, Killucan on Thursday 28th June. He was predeceased by his son Paul, Sister Philomena, parents Tom and Mena. The attendance at the reposing of his remains in Farrell’s Funeral Home, and again at his Funeral Mass bore ample testimony to the esteem in which he was held. At his burial in Clonbonny members of the Shannon Tones paid their final musical respects to a very special man and friend of us all.

To his wife Maureen, daughter Elizabeth, sister Gabrielle, brother Tom, grandchildren,  relatives and a huge number of friends we extend our heartfelt sympathy

Healthcare Monitoring in Your Home

Shannonside Digital Skills are putting together a new plan for a pilot scheme in the Lanesborough Ballyleague area in the coming months.

The scheme will allow 20 people who suffer from diabetes, high blood pressure, COPD or other chronic illness to decide themselves to have their critical daily medical readings monitored by the use of new technology in the comfort of their own home through the use of broadband. These readings will then be monitored in conjunction with a specialised nurse service so that any healthcare readings of concern will be brought to the attention of the person immediately and action proposed.

This pilot project is now only at developmental stage. Participation will be purely on a voluntary basis for each person (10 from Ballyleague and 10 from Lanesborough) and each person who volunteers must firstly fill out a questionnaire and consult with their own GP.

This is the first pilot of its kind in the republic of Ireland and to find our more information please contact Debbie at (086) 223 0971 or Adrian at 04333 21734

The pilot will not start until the initial questionnaire has been successfully completed by all 20 people.

To seek a questionnaire please e mail:  shannonsiderenewal@gmail.com

Sympathy

On Wednesday last 4th July we received the sad news of the death of Stella McKearney, Weekfield. Stella a native of County Armagh along with her husband Malachy came to live amongst us. She was a lovely and quite spoken lady. Her memory will live long with any of us that had the pleasure to know Stella. In the past few years she was in failing health and she bore her cross with great dignity and strength. Her remains reposed at her sister’s house in Keady before removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Keady. Burial took place following her Funeral Mass to the adjoining cemetery. We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to her husband Malachy, sisters Pauline (McKeever) and Noreen (Casey), nieces, nephews and  many friends.

Exciting Press Release

John Finn formerly of Rathcline Road and son of Jim and Madge Finn, Rathcline Road, released a very exciting and new financial development. It is a first for the country and it is wonderful to see one of our own making great strides furthering his career. Below is the content of the Press Release. We wish John huge success in the creation of the Treasury Hub.

PRESS RELEASE ANNOUNCING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE TREASURY HUB JUNE 27th, 2018

Treasury Solutions Ltd, a specialist treasury advisory firm is pleased to announce its collaboration with four prominent accounting and advisory firms under the brand of “The Treasury Hub”. The four firms are: Buckley Kiely (Cork) Gilroy Gannon (Sligo) McInerney Saunders (Dublin) RBK (Midlands/Dublin) 1

Background

Treasury Solutions Limited (“TSL”) has been operating for 18 years offering a premium quality treasury advisory service to the large corporate market. It is now broadening its service offering through a collaboration with four accounting and advisory firms across the country.

New Service Outline

The new service will provide the firms with access to the technical knowledge and financial market intelligence of TSL to enable them to offer new products and services to their clients and to deal with the impact on interest rates, foreign exchange and the banking market in general that will inevitably emanate from Brexit, geo-political developments, etc. The focus of each of these firms will be very much on the owner-managed sector that is crucial to the success of the Irish economy.

The services to be provided via The Treasury Hub include:

  • Debt funding by banks
  • Debt funding by non-banks
  • Interest rate risk management
  • Foreign exchange management • Liquidity management
  • Cash management
  • Ad hoc treasury issues.

The provision of the range and quality of these services under The Treasury Hub effectively brings large company expertise to small and medium-sized enterprises. Not only will it give significant competitive advantage to these firms but it will also give high quality and unique risk management support to their clients as they seek to grow their international sales and footprint.

Unique Selling Point

With the exception of the largest companies, most Irish corporates have been inadequately served in their treasury management function, highlighted by a lack of access to specialist advisers in certain aspects of such dealings in Ireland. This would be replicated internationally and is not a uniquely Irish experience. The collaboration under The Treasury Hub will provide a quality service not previously available to these companies. Better risk management practices will not only save clients’ money but will also improve their banking negotiations and outcomes. In the face of the risks associated with Brexit and other challenges, those who engage early will benefit the most.

Summary

It is the intention of The Treasury Hub to add a number of additional accounting and advisory firms to the collaboration in due course thereby permitting the Irish SME and mid-corporate sectors to avail of best practice banking and finance advice regardless of their geographical location. The initial four firms employ 325 people across their divisions, serving thousands of clients right across the country. It is hoped that this initiative will help to create further job opportunities for both these firms and their clients. For further details please contact: –
