Lanesboro Ballyleague notes Monday 17th September 2017

Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Taste of the Lakelands

The Taste of the Lakelands will take place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th October. There will be a huge array of producers on site where the quality of producers in the Lakelands area will be presenting their quality products to all and sundry. This is without doubt an unmissable event in the calendar of Lanesboro and Ballyleague. A lot of planning and hard work is going into the preparation and presentation of the programme and it is hoped this work will be rewarded with bumper crowds on each day.

Separately on Friday 5th the Lough Ree Distillery will officially launch their distilled Gin. Further details of the launch will follow.

Some of the main attractions on Saturday 6th will be the School Cookery competition, Catherine Fulvio at 3pm and demonstrations with Matthew from the Grow Truck Vegan, the Comfort Wholefood Company. There will be live open-air music on the stage beyond the duck pond from 3pm with the rising star David Keenan and Mick Flavin

On Sunday Kevin Dundon will be the star attraction at 3pm with Asian and Chinese chef who will entice the oriental taste to the uninitiated. On stage from 3 pm will be rising Country Music star Ciaran Rosney and his band and Camillus Egerton

This year there will be a charge upon entrance to the site of €5 per adult where children will go free. This is a small charge for such a wonderful weekend and we hope that the attendance will far exceed the attendances of previous years.

Hospice Coffee Morning

A Coffee Morning in support of the Hospice Foundation will take place on this Friday 21st September in St. Mary’s Hall from 10am to 1.30pm. The funds raised will go to Longford Hospice Homecare. The full support of the entire community will be greatly appreciated.

Intermediate Championship Final

On Sunday next we hope it will be a red lettered day for the Intermediate panel of the Rathcline club when for the second year in a row they will compete in the final of the Intermediate Championship where they will take on St. Patrick’s Ardagh/Moydow in Pearse Park at 4pm.

Being reigning champions means the challenge is greater as it has been throughout the championship as everyone wants to beat the current champions. The panel have worked hard to get themselves to this position and we hope that they can take the final step in making it back to back wins.

Flags and bunting are appearing throughout the parish and we hope the parish is festooned in the club colours and that on Sunday there will be a massive number of Rathcline supporters in Pearse Park to cheer on the team.

We wish manager Liam Tully, mentors and panel the very best of luck

Mass for Deceased Residents

St. Faithleach’s reach Quarter Final

Sunday afternoon at St. Faithleach’s pitch was the place to be when St. Faithleach’s finished with a 5-point win over St. Croan’s in what was a very high scoring game. All St. Faithleach’s required was a one-point victory to reach the county quarter final.

On Sunday next at Kilglass grounds St. Faithleach’s will meet near neighbours Strokestown at 3.45pm in the Quarter Final and we urge all that can to go to support the team and hopefully cheer them into a semi-final place.
