Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Death

The entire community was saddened to learn of the death on Wednesday 16th September at the Innis Ree Nursing Home, Ballyleague of Vincent Reddin, The Green. Vincent who was predeceased by his wife Ellen and son Niall had been in failing health in recent years. Vincent was a native of Mountmellick, Co. Laois came to work with Bord na Mona many years ago. His warm and affectionate manner instantly made him very welcome and popular in our community. Vincent was a wonderful neighbour and friend, very obliging and extremely helpful. He was initially trained in his trade with Bord na Mona and before arriving in Lanesboro Vincent worked with shipping that took him to many places in the world. He was a quiet and considerate man who’s caring for his family was clearly evident by his words and deeds. Vincent was a very keen gardener and his plot was a pure joy to him. Vincent left an indelible mark on our community and his passing now leaves a great void, and we will always fondly remember him.

His remains were removed from Farrell’s Funeral Home on Friday last to St. Mary’s Church for his Funeral Mass. Following Mass Vincent was laid to rest alongside his wife Ellen and son Niall in Clonbonny Cemetery. Ballyboro

A hectic weekend is in store with six teams in action.  Saturday’s Fixtures: Under 11s play Abbey Rovers at home at 11am; Under 13s pay UCL Falcons in Dernafest Lough Gowna, 11am kick off; Under 15s play UCL Harps in Dernafest, 2pm start. Sunday’s Fixtures:  Under 12s play Kenagh United at 2pm in Abbeycartron; Under 14s play Killoe Celtic in Cullyfad at 12.30; Under 16s pay Stonepark in Abbeycartron, 2pm kick off.

The under 15 team were involved in a goal fest with opponents Stonepark on Saturday last. 13 goals were scored in total but unfortunately for the Ballyboro boys 8 of them were for Stonepark. It was certainly a game of two halves as in the first period the Stonepark lads were well on top and led 6-1 at the interval. However, in the second period Ballyboro were a transformed team and played some inspired football to reduce the deficit to 8-5 at full time. Eoin Cox with a hat trick and Jack Casey (2) were the Ballyboro goalscorers. Ballyboro: Sam Glennon, Josh Crawford, Cormac O’Dowd, Kevin Donlon, David Cox, James Mimnagh, Joey Trimble, Jack Phelan, Jack Casey, Eoin Cox and Ben Murphy.
