Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Tractor/Vintage car/Classic Bike Run Deferred

Due to the countrywide restrictions imposed by the Government owing to Covid-19 Lanesboro Tourism/Tidy Town have deferred their Tractor Run/Vintage Car and Classic Bike Run until a time that there is a safe opportunity to hold the event.

Since this fundraiser was first mooted there was fabulous interest and support with a large number entering their vehicles almost immediately. The committee is deeply grateful for your great expression of interest and thank everyone and they look forward to welcoming everyone once the restrictions have been lifted to safely take part in what will surely be a fabulous day out.

Caution

Just a reminder for everyone that is walking, cycling, and driving down Clonbonny to the new Greenway in Kilnacarrow. The Bord na Mona track that crosses the road as you approach the entrance to the Greenway is now back in use and you are asked to be very careful and conscious in the knowledge that the locos and the wagons are back using this particular line. These locos are pulling heavy loads, they will always be crossing this junction on frequent occasions and it take a long distance for it to stop – please unsure caution at all times.

Enjoyable Autumnal Feeling

The last few weeks were a bonus weather wise with some very unseasonably warm days thrown in giving us a real autumnal feel. However, the forecast for the coming week which began on Sunday was not good and a return to wet and windy weather. The last few weeks of good weather has given people a great uplift and the chance to prepare for the winter days ahead.

The past couple of weeks seen the last of the tourists and it was remarkable the great comments about our community in regard to beauty, hospitality and friendliness. It is always great to hear such comments about our community but more so this year as all our visitors were Irish and they were seeing the Shannon and our community for the first time. Let’s hope that the good affect we had on them will make them return in the coming year and years.

We look to the winter with some trepidation due to the extraordinary rise in Covid-19 infected numbers. We are very conscious that in the area every one of us have done a remarkable job in keeping the virus at bay and we encourage everyone to be patient and to continue to do the right thing to protect ourselves, our families and everyone we come in contact with. I know that all the restrictions have made it become very tedious leading to a feeling of uneasiness and frustration but we must continue to do the right thing to ensure we will all come out of it on the right side.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Bríd and James Hanley, their son Tiernan, Knock Manor, and the extended Killian family on the death of Bríd’s father Brendan Killian, Cornaguillagh, Newtowncashel on Saturday last 17th October

Thank You

A couple of weeks ago the residents of Church View paid their respect to Mike Casey for all the work he had done in the estate for almost 15 years when they made a presentation to him of the occasion of his finishing up on the scheme.

Mike asked me to include this week a note of thanks for their presentation. It was something that he had not expected and as he said himself “the gift I got was working with all the residents of the estate over the 15 years”. He said his time in Church View was a labour of love because he was working with a wonderful community young and old. He thanks everybody for the support and respect they showed him. The residents of Church View will never be forgotten by him and his gratitude will remain unbridled. He again thanks everyone in Church View for their presentation.

Seeing a Counsellor

Seeing a counsellor does not mean that there is something wrong with you. It may mean that you like to learn new ways to cope with different situations, create new thinking patterns and help with a traumatic experience. If this is something you would like to explore you are asked to phone 0433341511.
