Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Death

Following a relatively short illness it is with great sadness we record the death at his residence on Saturday 23rd January of Sonny Shea, Lisnaria. Sonny was a man big in stature and big in heart as anyone that knew would attest to. He was of farming stock and farmed his land with great conscientiousness and he got the very best from his land. Sonny was an excellent neighbour and friend to so many people as was clearly evident by the amount of people that expressed their sadness when they learned of his death.  He was a man who always wore a warm and friendly smile, had a great love of life and never enjoyed anything more than a game of cards when the day’s work was done. Sonny will be greatly missed by everyone that came to know him and his passing will leave a great emptiness in the area. He was a man that was always ready to help anyone in need of help or support and generous to a fault.

His remains were removed to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ballyleague on Monday for his Funeral Mass followed by burial afterwards in Cloontuskert Cemetery. We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Betty, sons Peter and Tim, daughters Mags and Libby, grandchildren and extended family.

Cosmetic Dentist

Reading the Business Post on Sunday 24th January it was wonderful to read of a young lady with a local connection doing so well in her chosen profession. Dr Slaine Mc Grath a leading cosmetic dentist in Britain is about to open a new clinic in Dublin in the very near future.

Slaine grew up in Galway where she graduated from Dublin Dental School at Trinity College. She then practiced in oral and maxillofacial unit of Galway University College Hospital.

Slaine moved to London where she has been in high demand especially among the reality show stars and social media influencers. Her new Dublin Clinic will soon open in Aungier Street, under the Slaine Smiles brand.

The Slaine Smiles clinic will specialise in minimal invasive cosmetic dentistry.

Slaine is the daughter of Pat Mc Grath, formerly of the Green and her mother Anne.

We wish Slaine continues success when she opens her new Dublin Clinic.

Death

The entire area was shocked and saddened when the news broke of the death on Friday last 29th January at her residence of Mary Conmy, Rathcline Road. Mary was predeceased by her father and mother Eddie and Tess Kelly and her sister Imelda. She was a remarkable lady with an easy-going, laid back nature which was the trademark of her personality. She had that unique personality that warmed the heart of everyone that met her. Mary and her husband Frank had a great love of travel and they worked in many countries before settling back in Lanesboro where they reared their family. Mary was a nurse by profession and everyone that came under her care remarked of her care and attentiveness. She was a person with a great character with a wonderful sense of fun and a caring and very thoughtful lady, very compassionate and she greatly affected everyone that had the pleasure to come to know her. She was a wonderful and loyal friend. She was a woman that loved gardening, reading and most of all read all the latest in medical science for which she had an insatiable desire for more and more knowledge. One of her greatest pleasures was to stroll along the Shannon banks as she made her way for her Sunday paper. Mary’s passing was mourned not only in the local community but worldwide where she left an indelible mark. Mary will be deeply missed.

Mary’s remains were removed from her residence to St. Mary’s Church on Sunday last for her Funeral Mass. Following Mass, she was laid to rest in Clonbonny Cemetery. To her husband Frank, daughter Cathy, sons Stephen and Edward, sisters Florence and Catherine, brother Eugene, grandchildren, relatives and many friends we extend our heartfelt sympathy.

Death

We were all so sorrowful when the news broke on Thursday last 28th January of the unexpected death, peacefully at her home on the Rathcline Road of Helena Prior. Helena was predeceased by her mother Bridie a number of years ago. She was a young lady who was very quiet and reserved. Helena was a lady with a great love of art, she was very musical, and had a tremendous interest in things from the past particularly where it was family related. In her younger days she loved pony riding and was regularly to be found at Thornfield Riding School. Helena studied Science in UCD and exhibited a great flair for the academic world. She was a very gentle and relaxed lady with a great warmth and humility. Helena will be greatly missed by her family and everyone that knew her.

Her remains were removed to St. Mary’s Church on Saturday last for her Funeral Mass. Following Mass, Helena was laid to rest alongside her mother in Rathcline Cemetery. To her father Pat, brother Ciaran, sister Michelle, nephews, relatives and friends we extend our sincere sympathy.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Mary Chapman and family, Lisnacusha, on the death of her sister Nuala Power, Moate, Co. Westmeath, who died on Monday 25th January at the Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore.
