Lanesboro Ballyleague notes Monday 5th May 2014

Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Celebration of a remarkable Milestone

On Monday 4th May 1914 on Inchenagh island in Lough Ree Eileen Connaughton was born. She was from a family of 10 – 8 girls and 2 boys. Eileen grew up on the island before marrying Michael Devanney in 1948. They lived in Kilteevan before making their move to Rathcline, high on the hill, where she was to spend the rest of her live looking over her beloved Lough Ree where they reared two daughters Maureen and Ann.

On Saturday last, a day before her 100th birthday, the family held a glorious celebration of her life, in her home, to recognise and honour the wonderful achievement of reaching 100 years.

The day started with Fr, Mickie Reilly celebrating mass and in his own inimitable way made the occasion a very beautiful one for Eileen. Following mass the party got into full swing and another very special guest at the party was Eileen’s sister Teresa who in September next will celebrate the magnificent age of 102. Teresa who is a Dominican nun travelled from her home base in Santa Sabina House to share this joyful occasion with her sister Eileen. The pair of sisters really brought the house down when together they sang a duet of a much loved family song.

We congratulate Eileen on reaching the remarkable milestone of 100 years and hope she has many more years in the loving care of her family.

It is a special day in the life of our young people and they should be there to enjoy and treasure the magical moments at the track.

There is always a huge demand for blood and your contribution can be a life saver for some person. Young people are encouraged to go along and begin the wonderful process of giving blood. If you have been a regular donor in the past and have let it lapsed, then, there is no better time than now to get back into donating blood. Rathcline GAA

We start with the climb! The Croagh Patrick climb has become an annual event for Rathcline. It happens this Saturday the 10th May; everyone who is taking part hopefully has all their sponsorship for this gruelling test. It’s a great experience followed by a wonderful social evening. Accommodation is available, in Westport, at €45 per person and if you want to avail of this please contact Lorraine Farrell.

Would you or someone you know like to go to One Direction with a hundred euro spending money??If so, then Rathcline have various tickets at €2 a line in all shops in Lanesboro. It’s a cheap way to be in with a chance to win a pair of tickets to one of the most eagerly awaited concerts of 2014. Someone will win, so put your name down for 2 euro and be in with a chance!

The Rathcline men had a tough 2 point win over Kenagh on Friday evening. A tough physical game that both teams could have won just went the way of Rathcline when they stretched away in the last 5 minutes. Kenagh tried to get that elusive goal but the backs held out. Another win, well done lads.

Thanks to Bonniconlon from Co. Mayo for travelling down on Sunday to play a challenge. It was worthwhile at this time of year. We wish the Mayo lads the best in their championship.

Training continues for the senior lads on Wednesday night.

Boom, the jackpot has been won again in the Rathcline GAA Lotto. Congrats to Claire and Joe Finnegan on winning €1500. The winning numbers were 10, 11, 17, 39, 41 and 43. Thanks for the support.

Minor Club Notes

The club survives every year on getting children and parents involved in the club. It’s very heartening to see such large attendances at U6, U8, and U10 training. The U 14’s play Legan this week, the U 16’s play Ardagh on Thursday, the minors have finished till after the Leaving Cert. We wish all students taking part in exams the best of luck.

The Co Longford Minors are out this Wednesday evening when they take on Carlow. The very best to the lads and management from all at Rathcline GFC.
