Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
10K Road Race and 6K Fun Run
Lanesboro G2 (Gathering) committee are hosting a 10K Road race and 6K Fun Run and Walk in Lanesboro on Sunday 29th June. The route is similar to last year where the runners will start out at Lanesboro car park and up the Rathcline Road; at Harold’s Cross the 6K runners/walkers will turn left across Bullockstown while the 10K runners will continue straight on to the top of Carraroe where they will turn left down through Lisrevagh and at the junction turn left again and come back through Killinure. Both runs will re-unite at the Bullockstown/ Tullyvrane junction, continue on to the Ballymahon Road and turn left and continue on through the town back to the finishing line in the car park. The race will commence at 12 noon and registration will take place from 10.30am in the parish hall. Entry fee is €10.
Golf Outing
The next outing of the Lough Ree Golfing Society is to lovely Portumna Golf Course.
The tee is booked from 11.15 to 11.53am.
As it is an open time sheet we need to give the club a list of names beforehand so please text 0879730611 if you wish to attend. Time sheet will be arranged as names come in: ie first in first out!
The society is looking to a large attendance at this great venue. Try to be at course around 10.30 as usual.
Rathcline Lotto results
The numbers drawn in the weekly Rathcline GAA lottery on Saturday night were 4, 8, 15, 18, 19 and 22 for a jackpot of €600. There was nobody with the four numbers although two came close having three of the four numbers. The jackpot for next week will rise to €700. The four winners of €25 were Mike and Anne Kenny, Ballinahinch, Lorraine Farrell, Aughamore, M&N Nolan Motors, Newtownforbes and Mike Kenny, Newpark.
Wedding
The marriage took place at St. Mary’s Church, Ballagh on Saturday 31st May of Margaret Shea, daughter of Sonny and Betty Shea, Lisnaria and David Dunning, son of Padraig and Margaret Dunning, Clonown, Co. Roscommon. Matron of honour was Libby Geraghty sister of the bride. Bestman was Mark Dunning, brother of the groom. Pageboys were Cian Shea and Tadgh Shea nephews of the bride and flower girl was Megan Geraghty niece of the bride. The marriage ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Larney Shine assisted by Fr Michael Murtagh. The wedding reception took place in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon.
We wish the happy couple many years of wedded bliss.
Compost workshop in Ballyleague Centre
Ballyleague Tidy Towns and Waterways Ireland have organised a one hour advice workshop on composting at the new Community Compost centre recently built in Ballyleague Marina on Friday June 27th at 7pm.The main speaker on the night will be Nuala Madigan, Education Officer from the Irish Peatland Council – who will give a practical demonstration of proper composting skills and techniques. There will be a chance for questions from anybody in the area who wants to set up a new compost centre or use the new community facility so please come along. Ballyleague Tidy Towns has supported the construction of the new facility as part of our Green Homes plan and our 2013-2015 area action plan – recently submitted to the Tidy Towns Adjudicators. Residents of Waters Edge, Shannonside , Ballyclare court, Meadowbrook, Shannon Heights, Shannon Grove and Lough Park are all invited to attend.
Ballyleague Tidy Towns is all ready for now the adjudicators in the National Tidy Towns competition – with the painting at the old thatch bringing the hard work by the volunteers to a conclusion recently. Ongoing maintenance will continue throughout the summer and members of the public are invited to keep the village litter free and tidy.
Birth
Many congratulations to Tom and Carmel Rumley, Radharc na Muileann, on the birth last week of a baby boy.
Wedding
The marriage took place at the Church of the nativity of the Blessed Mary, Keadue, Co. Roscommon of Peter Wallace son of Sonny and Mary Claire Wallace, Ballyleague and Orla Mc Gowan, daughter of John and Phillis Mc Gowan, Whitehall, Tarmonbarry. The Bestman was Padraig Wallace brother of the groom and groomsman was Eoin Donnellan, friend of the groom. Matron of Honour was Eimear Glover, sister of the bride and bridesmaid was Louise Wilson, friend of the bride. The flower girl was Ella Mc Gowan, nice of the bride. The marriage ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Eamonn O’Connor. The wedding reception took place in Kilronan Castle, Ballyforan. We wish the happy couple many years of wedded happiness.
New Courses at Lanesboro Community College
This coming September Lanesboro Community College will embark on two new year long full time courses. These will be PLC courses in Outdoor Recreation and a PLC course in Music both FETAC level 5.
The Outdoor Pursuit course will include outdoor recreation, outdoor leadership and safety, adventure activities, hillwalking proficiency, teamworking, work experience and communication. As you can see it is a wide and varied course and it is a course full of potential. Following the successful completion of this course there is the opportunity to go on to a 3rd level degree course at GMIT Castlebar and Shackleton College, Dublin.
The second course is a PLC course in Music. This course includes modules in music performance, musicianship, music theory and practice, music industry studies, graphic design, communications and work experience. This course covers all aspects of music and following a successful completion of the course there is the great opportunity to progress to a wide variety of colleges to complete your music degree: A.I.T., W.I.T., Tralee and Dundalk I.T. and Limerick I.T. There are career opportunities in music performance, production and promotion.

Rathcline Launch Novel Scratch Card
The Rathcline club have just launched a scratch coinciding with the World Cup final. The tickets cost just €2 and the winner can win a prize of €500. Just buy your scratch card for €2, scratch off the relevant segment and see what time you have been allocated for the scoring of the first goal in the final.
It is a novel and eye catching idea as it will bring greater interest into the World Cup final and you will be hoping that the goal is scored at your time to claim the €500.
Time for a clean up
Cemetery Sunday will take place at the three cemeteries in the parish commencing on Sunday 6th July in Rathcline followed by Lanesboro on 13th and Clonbonny on 20th July. It is up to everyone with family plots in each cemetery to tend to their family plot and ensure that everything is in pristine condition for this blessing of our family graves.
Siamsa
An Irish language summer course (Siamsa) will take place from Monday 7th July to Friday 11th July on Gaelscoil Longfoirt. The course will take place from 9.30am to 3pm each day and will cater for students from second class to first year in second level. Lough Ree AC
Another week of activity, another visit to Sligo I.T. on Saturday 14th June. This time it was the turn of age groups from U13 up to senior to compete in the Connaught Athletic championships. The numbers were down on last week, as would be expected with the older age groups. The clubs outlook was the same as last week – not to expect too much at this level and nobody will be disappointed.
However, the “Mark Brady stable” was in form. Mark, himself, won gold in the Senior Men’s Shot and silver in the Hammer and Discus.
More importantly, his protégé Ryan Murray (son of Tommy, the Green and Catherine Gormley) too Gold in the Boy’s U17 Discus and silver in the Shot. This was Murray’s first time competing in those championships. As well as the above, Brady found time to officiate at several of the throwing events, as each club is expected to supply judges and officials. This was a great help from a club point of view. Staying with the throws, young Bryn Peters arrived at the venue early for the U14 Hammer. It was worth his effort, as he deservedly won silver for second place. Last, but not least, Caoimhe Flood who had won the Javelin recently at the Newtowncashel Community Games took a Bronze medal for third in Sligo. Great stuff!
Well done to those who took part without success and again not forgetting Mark, it was his day!
We are now looking forward to the County Longford Community Games Finals and more action on Saturday and Sunday next, where we will be looking for great results from all our club members.

Adult Football League – O’Rourke Cup: Our seniors have a league game against St. Brigids this coming Wednesday 18th June at 8.00pm in Kiltoom.
U12 Girls – D3B Championship Final: Best of luck to our U12 girls panel of players and their management in the D3B county final against St. Croan’s, this coming Tuesday, 17th June at 7.00pm in Kilglass. Please come along and show your support.
U12 Boys – D3 Spring League: Our U12 boys have a game against Western Gaels this evening, Monday 16th June at 7.30pm in Ballyleague followed by a game against Shannon Gaels on Sunday next 22nd June at 12.00pm in Croghan.
GAA Club Sevens Tournament: Well done to our St. Faithleachs GAA ladies team who competed in the GAA Club Sevens tournament on Saturday last in Ballyhaunis.
Féile Peile na nÓg Tournament 2014: St. Faithleachs minor club is proud to be one of the hosts teams for the Connacht Féile Peile na nÓg 2014. (Friday 27th June to Sunday 29th June). Our U14 boys’ team is hosting a team from Antrim, St Marys Aghagallon and our U14 girls’ team is hosting a team from Clare, Doora Barefield. We look forward to welcoming all teams taking part, along with their parents, supporters and friends. Our U14 boys are in Division 6, Group D – St. Faithleachs, Roscommon, Strokestown, Roscommon, Hertfordshire, UK and Aghagallon St. Mary’s, Antrim. Our U14 girls are in Division 2, Group D – St. Faithleachs, Roscommon, St. Croan’s, Roscommon, Doora Barefield, Clare and St. Paul’s from Laois.

5k Run/Walk
A 5k Run/Walk in Roosky village will take place on Wednesday 2nd July at 8pm. Registration of €10 per person or €20 for family at Community Centre Roosky on Monday 30 June from 7 – 9pm and again at 6.30pm on Wednesday 2 July prior to walk. Proceeds in aid of Roosky Church Restoration Fund
