Kenneth Kelly receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Kenneth Kelly, son of Tommy and Kathleen Kelly, Carraroe was honoured in Boston on 22nd October for his wonderful work and achievements since he moved to the Boston and moreover the Somerville city area of Boston. Kenneth is married to Kim and they have two children Michael (5) and Samantha (1).

Kenneth, pictured above, will be remembered here as a quiet hard working young man a very affable young man who always got the job done. He completed his Primary schooling in Fermoyle National School before moving on to Rockwell College to secondary school. He then went on to university in St. Peter’s College New Jersey, where he graduated with a degree in accounting.

Kenneth then moved on to Verizon one of the biggest broadband and telecommunications companies in the world where he works his consultancy for the region and works from his New Hampshire office base. He is, also, the owner of Vitalsite Services Incorporate, a company that leases and zones properties for wireless communication equipment.

This year the city of Somerville Chamber of Commerce decided they would acknowledge the magnificent work he has put in for their city since his arrival and they honoured him with the John W. Fitzgerald Lifetime Achievement award. Normally awards of this stature are presented to one much later in life but such was Kenneth’s successful involvement over the past number of years that it was felt that now was the most opportune and appropriate time for his award.

Kenneth is seen by the Chamber of Commerce as “a local serial entrepreneur, a great factor in the metropolitan Boston’s dining and nightlife scene and generous community-orientated business owner”

Kenneth is owner of: The Independent and Brass in Union Square, Foundry on Elm, and Davis Square Theatre in Davis Square and the forthcoming River Bar in Assembly Row.

He has not been just an entrepreneur but he also immersed himself in the Chamber of Commerce, the Union Square business group, former vice President and now committee member of the Union Square Main Streets, a committee that is charged with the creation of vibrant neighbourhood by enhancing the business district and surrounds with community partnership.

All in all Kenneth has not been idle for one moment and we would like to send him our heartiest congratulations on an achievement and award much deserved. We would like to wish him many more years of serial entrepreneurship and all the success in the world.

Sympathy

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the late John Ryder, Ballinahinch, who died and was buried in Cashel cemetery on Saturday last. John will be missed by everyone that knew him in both parishes of Rathcline and Cashel.2

The committee has decided that it will not be involved in the Christmas lights project in Lanesboro for 2014. The cost of erecting, insuring and ongoing electricity charges of the lights are very high and the committee is not in a financial position to proceed with the Christmas lights this year.

Added value includes the intimacy of a smaller school where your child will feel an integral part of a larger family and where each student is valued as an individual in his or her own right. Teachers take a personal interest in each and every student and this leads to a high level of maturity and self – confidence in all our graduates. So come along on the evening and see for yourself! Hot Water Stretch Reopens

Following many weeks of closure the hot water stretch has reopened for fishing. There are strict guidelines to be adhered to in regard to the fishing and it is vitally important that the rules are strictly obeyed. One of the most important features of the guidelines is that the use of keepnets is strictly prohibited. The disinfection stations are now in situ and each and every person using the clam infected area is obliged to sterilise their fishing equipment both before and after fishing. All the criteria set down must be obeyed to ensure that the fishing areas stay open. Breaches of the rules and regulations could mean that the entire area will be shut down to fishing.

The area will be policed and patrolled by members of the Inland Fisheries Ireland, Lanesboro Tourism Co-Op and Lanesboro Pike Fishing club.

Lough Ree AC

Westport House was the venue this weekend for the uneven age group cross country. The course couldn’t have been better; a true but tough cross country course with lots of hills and hollows awaited our athletes and great credit to all our finishers. Even though some of our athletes were disappointed the last day they still showed great character in turning out again particularly Orla. They are all now looking forward to the Roscommon Country Cross Country Championships next Saturday where the course will not be as severe. Again we did not have a complete team in any age group something we need to address because it is not fair asking athletes to travel long distances to compete without a team.   However the athletes who turned out did us proud. While all athletes showed improvement, Cian Walton is finally coming to terms with cross country, he was in the 70’s in the Roscommon schools, in the 50’s in Loughrea and up to 33rd position this weekend, he was well supported by Kieran O’Dowd, both are getting to know what cross country is about.     Shauna Mimnagh and Orla Cox were our representatives in the girls under 11, and both surprised us with their efforts. In the under 13 age group, Alannah Flood finished in 17th position as against 10th last Sunday but then again she and her team mate Caoilinn Flood, who ran her best race ever were both giving away a year as they are under 12 athletes.   Well done to all, that is the end of the provincial cross country for this year and best of luck to Alannah in the All Ireland under 12’s.

Rathcline GAA

The U21 amalgamation of Rathcline and Grattans had a great win over Kenagh/Moydow in the championship on Saturday in Clonbonny. The game finished 1-15 to 1-09. There were great performances all over the pitch and now the team is in the semi-final against Abbeylara. No date has been confirmed yet so please keep an eye on local fixtures and Facebook for more information.
