Death

In and around 30 years ago Brendan Rhatigan introduced his new girlfriend to his townsland of Fermoyle and the parish of Rathcline. Little did he know the lasting impression she would leave in the parish and indeed the entire area. Pauline Moore a proud daughter of her native Scotshouse, Clones and county Monaghan married Brendan and they made their home in Fermoyle. Pauline’s outgoing personality and willingness to assist anyone soon endeared her to everyone that had the pleasure to know her. A woman whose dedication and support to her family was unfailing and she was hugely supportive in absolutely everything they did. She was a woman of deep faith whose religion meant everything to her. Pauline was a great worker as many businesses owners could attest to. Thursday nights would not be the same if she did not get to her weekly bingo in Ballyleague and meet with her many friends. Pauline’s loyalty to her friends was unbelievable.

She had a great strength of body and mind and that was clearly seen over the three years of her illness. She never allowed it to beat her, she fought it with a great strength courage and determination. Pauline, during her battle showed the true value of life and nothing was going to deprive her of living right to the very end. Her strength of mind and character was a lesson to us all. Pauline will be fondly remember by everyone that knew her – no matter for how short a time.

She lost her amazing battle for life on Friday 20th March at her residence. She reposed at her home until the removal of her remains on Monday to St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro. Following her Funeral Mass she was laid to rest in Clonbonny cemetery.

To her husband Brendan, sons Michael and Andrew, mother Teresa, brothers, sisters relatives and many friends we extend our sincere sympathy.

Memories

Peg Farrell, Clonfower, (nee O’Brien, Mahora) reminded me that there was a shop at the cottage at Clonfower crossroads and the business was run by Tess and Chris Hopkins. Peg also posed the question as to whether there was a shop in Derrygeel, something tell her that there was but she cannot remember.

Stella would like to thank everyone that has brought in old photographs and looks forward to receiving more.

She is now again seeking your help with old artefacts from shop life…like old fashioned till or weighing scales or even old bottles, cigarette and biscuits tins, tin signs etc.

If you have any of the above can you give them to Stella for the duration of the exhibition?

So far your response has been wonderful and this exhibition will surely draw huge attention and numbers.

Saturday 11th April 2015

For two of our young people Saturday 11th April 2015 will be a momentous day as along with their team mates from Roscommon CBS they will run out onto the green sward of Croke Park to contest the All-Ireland Colleges A final. They had a marvelous and hard earned win over Leinster champions Good Counsel from Wexford on Saturday last in Newbridge. They will take on Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne from Dingle, Co. Kerry who are bidding to retain the Hogan Cup they won last year.

It is a wonderful achievement for two young men from the Kilgefin parish and St. Faithleach’s club Daniel Foley and Stephen Walsh and a very proud day for their parents, family, club and school.

A day like this does not come around too often in a lifetime and we wish the two lads, their team mates and team management the very best of luck.
