Accommodation and Boats needed

The Lough Ree Angling Hub will host four major fishing competitions on the Shannon here in Lanesborough and Ballyleague between June 4th and October 10th – culminating with the World Championships. We will host 200 people for these events and urgently need self-catering houses to rent over the next 4 months. If you have one available, please e mail: loughreeanglinghub@gmail.com this week please. The hub also needs 40 boats for the world championships in October and is presently 20 short. For four days’ boat hire you could earn 400 Euro for the world championships and insurance will be covered by the organisers. If you have a lake boat to hire with an engine e mail: loughreeanglinghub@gmail.com or phone Liam at 085 1698032 or Alan at 086 8697952 this week please.

June Competition: 5 pegs have been retained for local anglers in our forthcoming competition on June 4th,5th and 6th here in Lanesborough. To take part you need to ring Liam or Alan this week and put down your name before Sunday next. €3000 Prize money at stake.

Ballyleague Tidy Towns

Ballyleague Tidy Towns are presently involved in key projects in the community – working on the Roscommon road (new stone wall facing near Lakeview Filling station), Salmon’s Lane (new nature walk, benches and signage), Strokestown road (litter picking enroute to Cloontuskert) and working with locals and owners to change the face of derelict buildings in the village. In the next 3 weeks we will embark on regular litter picks in the area and are taking this opportunity to ask all dog owners to observe the law when it comes to cleaning up after their dog. This regulation will be enforced by the dog warden in the riverside park and promenade area down at the Shannon where dog owners are reminded that a dog that is not on a lead may be retained by the warden. The national tidy towns judges will be here shortly after June 4th so we appeal to all residents to play their part by tidying up along the public road near their home, giving a lick of paint to a front wall if necessary and introducing flowers and hedge trimming where it is needed. Our thanks to to everyone for playing their part.

Rathcline GAA

We say hard luck to Denis Connerton, his team management and panel of players on their defeat to Offaly on Sunday last.

Thriller: Anyone that was in Clonbonny on Saturday last for the Reserve League game against were thoroughly entertained with what was one of the most entertaining games played in Clonbonny in many years. We were on the wrong end of the result but the enjoyment that all players from both sides must have gleaned from this game must have been immense. When a scoreline reads 5-9 to 3-10 you can surely see that this was a game that was free flowing and when you consider the missed chances then you really missed a cracker from both sides. The club would like to thank all the players for their effort and we look forward to much greater days ahead.

The senior team will travel to Ballymahon next weekend for a leader Cup League game. The day and time has yet to be confirmed. The senior fixtures for the coming weeks are Saturday 28th May V Killoe in Clonbonny and Saturday 4th June away to Colmcille.

On Thursday last our Under 16 team qualified for the final following a great but hard earned victory over a strong and determined Sean Connolly’s/Wolfe Tones. The final scheduled for Tuesday 18th May in Pearse Park against a very strong St. Francis/St. Vincent’s. We have had a few tough games against the same opposition this league and it promises to be a humdinger of a final.

Our U13 team will travel to Michael Fay Park on Thursday for their first outing of the year when they take part in a blitz. At 7pm they will take on Granard/Ballymore in their first game and their opposition in the other game at 7.45 will be dependent on winner/loser of other section.

There will be an U8 blitz in Clonbonny on Wednesday evening.

Well done to Lanesboro Primary School on winning the B final against Kenagh and hard luck to Fermoyle who were defeated by Newtowncashel in the A final in the Primary School Finals held in Pearse Park last week.
