Monster events about Commence
The Lough Ree Monster group will commence their fundraising activities on Sunday week 5th June when they stage a Céilí with local band Rise the Dust providing the music in Lanesboro Parish Hall with dancing from 4pm to 7pm with admission €10 and refreshments will be served.
On Friday 17th June at Longford Greyhound Track the group will host a Monster Greyhound Night on Friday 17th June at Longford Greyhound Track with admission €10
It is hoped that every house in Lanesboro, Ballyleague and the parishes of Rathcline and Kilgefin will be represented at the race night. Tickets are €10 and must be bought prior to attending as it is the only way that the Monster Festival group can benefit. Tickets are on sale in shops throughout the area or from committee members Teresa Ormsby, James Flaherty, Mike Greene or Joe O’Brien.
There are plans being put in place for a number of further events over the course of the year and we look forward to you participating of just coming along to enjoy the fun and the excitement.
Yoga Classes

First Holy Communion will take place on Saturday next 28th May in St. Mary’s church, Lanesboro at 11am.
Rathcline’s Annual Race Day
A few years ago it was decided to organise a Race Day fundraiser for the Rathcline club at the famous Galway races. A lot of hard work went into organising the day and it really payed off for the hard working committee. It has continued each year and has become more and more popular.
Monday 25th July is the date that the race Day will take place this year. It is an evening meeting on the opening day of the Galway Races.
For the cost of €110 this evening out represents tremendous value. For your money you receive free admission as well as a race card, free parking, area located in the new Killanin stand overlooking the finishing line with spectacular views, Tipsters in the Pavilion, tote facilities, a beautiful 4 course meal, €5 drink voucher, Best dressed Lady competition and after meal entertainment.

Lanesboro Tidy Towns Preparations
Preparations for the adjudication are continuing with great haste throughout Lanesboro as it is only a few weeks to adjudication time. The committee are very appreciative of the help and support they get every year with people putting a window box, hanging baskets, painting a front wall or gate, sweeping a pathway, picking litter and all the other little chores that people do in an effort to making their area and the entire area clean and presentable. Your support has given Lanesboro a great boost in the points and it is hoped that you will continue your great work and help the committee reach the ultimate prize.

Sympathy

Come with us to the Dogs
Our local community is well known for greatly supporting the Night at the Dogs when organised by different groups in the Lanesboro/Ballyleague area. We are again asking you to support the Monster Greyhound Night at Longford Greyhound Track on Friday 17th June and to encourage all your family and friends to go on the night.
Please make sure you buy your ticket before you set off for the dogs that is the only way you By purchasing your €10 ticket you are ensuring yourself of a wonderful night out and even if you do not go you are making your contribution to the Festival. Lough Ree Golfing Society
The next outing of the society is to the lovely Castle Barna Golf Course near Daingean in Co Offaly. Canoeing Lanesboro to Limerick
Time is nearing for the mammoth paddle buy local man Junior Hannon as he undertakes a huge paddle from the bridge crossing the Shannon in Lanesboro Ballyleague to Limerick City on Friday 27th May.
Junior is seeking sponsorship for his paddle and the money will go to the Irish Cancer Society who are tirelessly working to find a cause and cure for cancer. Cancer is a blight on every community that has left no home unaffected and your support will be a wonderful help towards all the great research being done. If you have not already sponsored, you can do so in O’Brien’s.
Ballyleague Tidy Towns
are presently involved in key projects in the community – working on the Roscommon road (new stone wall facing near Lakeview Filling station), Salmon’s Lane (new nature walk, benches and signage), Strokestown road (litter picking enroute to Cloontuskert) and working with locals and owners to change the face of derelict buildings in the village. In the next 3 weeks we will embark on regular litter picks in the area and are taking this opportunity to ask all dog owners to observe the law when it comes to cleaning up after their dog. This regulation will be enforced by the dog warden in the riverside park and promenade area down at the Shannon where dog owners are reminded that a dog that is not on a lead may be retained by the warden. The national tidy towns judges will be here shortly after June 4th so we appeal to all residents to play their part by tidying up along the public road near their home, giving a lick of paint to a front wall if necessary and introducing flowers and hedge trimming where it is needed. Our thanks to everyone for playing their part. Clean up this week on Wednesday at 7pm and Saturday at 10.30am
Sympathy
If not the last, then one of the last people to be born on Inchenagh island on Lough Ree passed away on Sunday last. Sr Teresa Connaughton, a sister of the late Eileen Devanney, Rathcline, passed away in her 104th year. Sr Teresa was aunt of Maureen Hynes and Anne Ryan. Sr Teresa spent her entire live dedicated to God within the Dominican Sister congregation. We extend our deepest sympathy to Maureen and Anne, their extended family and the Dominican Sisters on the death of Sr Teresa.

The Bridge year ended on Monday May,16th., 2016 with the President’s Dinner (Mr. Brendan Dowling) in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon.

Church Gate Collection
The Parents Association of Ballyleague National School will hold their annual church gate collection at all masses at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ballyleague this weekend. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Honda 50 Run
The sight of the Honda 50 runs taking place during the summer months brings you back in time and all the fun that we had on the old Honda 50. Lanesboro has its own Honda 50 Run and this year it will take place on Sunday 12th June. Registration will take place in Lanesboro Parish Hall from 10.30am to 12.15pm. The trip is a 50-mile trip around Lough Ree. There is a no helmet no run policy. Refreshments will be available in the Parish Hall before and after the run. Contact Jimmy Clancy 087-2289468.
There is a draw organised in conjunction with the run and the winning names will be drawn following the run. Tickets, priced €2, are on sale locally and your support will be appreciated.

Monster Céilí
The Lough Ree Monster Group will host a Monster Céilí on Sunday 5th June in Lanesboro Parish Hall. Dancing to the hugely popular and local céilí band Rise the Dust will be from 4pm to 7pm. Lanesboro is recognised as having one of the best dance floors around and we welcome everyone that has not yet had the pleasure to make the 5th June as a date to dance on one of the best dancing floors around.
CFRAM Meeting in Athlone
The CFRAM meeting day in Civic Offices, Church St., Athlone, on this Thursday 26th from 2p.m.to 7p.m.
This is an opportunity for anyone effected by recent floods to have input and the opportunity of advising CFRAM on what can you feel can be done to reduce the flooding in our area. This forum is for the Shannon from Leitrim to Limerick. It is your final chance to have a say in the future planning to help eradicate flooding into the future.

Lough Ree Athletic Club
Let us start by congratulating Conor Rohan and Ryan Murray on winning gold at the Connaught Schools Athletic Championships in AIT Athlone on Friday last 19th May. Both athletes were representing CBS Roscommon and won their gold medals in the Intermediate and Senior discus respectively.
While the club would like to take kudos for their success, the accolade for the lads achievements must definitely go to their parents. They have encouraged their boys, brought them to any coaching courses that became available, brought them to competitions and now it is delightful to see results coming their way. However, having said that, this is not the first Connaught title for either of the lads !!
Training continues on the track on Tuesday evenings 6 – 6.50. Community Games qualifiers from either side of the bridge are welcome to come up to the track and especially relay teams.
Cemetery Sunday
Just a note to inform you that Cemetery Sunday in the Rathcline parish will commence in Rathcline cemetery on Sunday 3rd July and continue in Lanesboro cemetery 10th July and finishing in Clonbonny 17th July.
Siamsa
An Irish Language Summer Course (SIAMSA!) will take place from Monday 4th July to Friday 8th July 2016 in Gaelscoil Longfoirt giving children an opportunity to learn, practice and improve their spoken Irish. Events and activities include morning Oral Irish Classes, Games, Sports, Art and Crafts, Drama, Music and Céilí Dancing. The course will take place from 9.30am to 3.00pm each day and will cater for students from Second Class to First Year. Women’s Mini Marathon

Accommodation and Boats needed
The Lough Ree Angling Hub will host four major fishing competitions on the Shannon here in Lanesborough and Ballyleague between June 4th and October 10th – culminating with the World Championships. We will host 200 people for these events and urgently need self-catering houses to rent over the next 4 months. Lough Ree Sub Aqua
Sunday May 15th saw ten divers travel to Mullaghmore for two excellent dives. It had been hoped to travel across to St. Johns Bay but a dodgy prop put paid to that idea. Nevertheless, good visibility, despite the water being quite cold, yielded two nice dives. That, coupled with the sunshine, made it a memorable day.
Congratulations to Gerry Lane and Tracy Gaynor on their recent marriage. Best wishes to you both from everyone in the club.
There are still High Visibility jackets awaiting collection and there are more jackets en route.
Passers-by wold have been forgiven for thinking there was a big dive on last Thursday. It was in fact the arrival of a number of dry-suits which were ordered at the Annual Dive Show in the Hodson Bay Hotel last March. These were being fitted for size and from now on 0-Three dry suits are the in-thing!

Rathcline GAA
On Sunday afternoon the senior team travelled to Ballymahon to take on the home side in the Leader Cup. This was a much improved performance by the lads ad they were very unlucky not to come away with the two points. We had to settle with appoint each after a draw Rathcline 2-8 to Ballymahon 0-14pts.
Having held a convincing lead, we allowed Ballymahon back into the game. Our performance was very good. There is no doubting the ability of our team and with the continuing rising of the fitness levels they are getting to a position that they will be picking up more and more points as the league continues.
Next Friday we will welcome Killoe to Clonbonny for the next round of the Leader Cup. The throw in time is 8.15 and we hope there will be a big attendance for this game. The following Sunday week we will travel to Fr. Mc Gee Park for another round of the league against Colmcille, throw in 2.30pm.

The U16 team had a wonderful victory on Tuesday last when they beat St. Francis/St. Vincent’s 3-12 to 4-5. As with the other meetings between these teams was little to nothing between both sides. This was a hard won and hard grafted victory by the Western Gaels U16 team. There were many outstanding individual displays but it was the unity of purpose by everyone that seen the lads through in the end.
The U13 panel will travel to Maguire Park, Ballinalee, for their blitz where they take on East Longford at 7.45pm and Granard/Ballymore at 8.30pm.
The future is bright! Last week we had an U8 blitz in Clonbonny and it was marvellous to see such a wonderful turnout and great performances by each and every young player. The greatest pleasure is to see so many out in Clonbonny enjoying themselves and improving their skills. The sounds of laughter and our players having fun is what we are all about.
