Indoor Market

The indoor market continues each Friday in the Co-op hall.  Once again people were disappointed as stalls sold out very quickly, especially the fish. If you wish to book your Fish, Bread, Eggs, Jam etc. you can call the Co-op and place you order to avoid disappointment.  Thanks to all who support the market,   

Internet Facilities

Lough Ree co-op. has excellent internet facilities available, for anybody in the locality who wishes to browse the net. Printing and fax facilities also available.  These service are available from Monday to Thursday 9.30am – 5.pm and Friday 9.30am to 4.pm. There is a charge of €2 for 30mins.

Lanesboro Pike Angling Club

Last Sunday the Lanesboro Pike Angling Club held a competition on Lough Ree. There was a modest turnout of 7 boats with 12 anglers taking part. The amount of fish caught was not as many as was hoped for.

1st prize was won by Joe Mc Dermott with a fish weighing 11lb 11oz. 2nd prize of €60 went to Mark Mimnagh with a fish weighing 4lb 14oz. 3rd prize went to Noel Rhatigan with a fish weighing 3lb 7oz. The prize of €25 for the smallest fish went to Packie Reilly with a fish weighing 9oz. The winner of the junior section was won by Daniel Curran with a fish weighing 15oz.

The winners of the non fishing members draw were won by Martina Mitten and Sarah Curran, each receiving €20.

The club would like to thank all the anglers for turning up on the day and look forward to seeing them and others at the next outing.

Lough Ree 2000 Bridge Club

Church Gate Collection

The County Longford Branch of the Irish Kidney Association is holding a Church Gate collection on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August. Your support will be much appreciated.

Presbytery Appointment

Due to the recent number of break-ins at Presbyteries in the area Fr. Reilly has asked that in the interest of security and safety anybody wishing to attend the Presbytery after 8pm are asked to make prior arrangement. 

Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club Poker

 Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club is staging a Hibernian Poker Classic in the Lough Ree Arms on Friday 14th August at 9pm. Registration will take place from 8pm with the game staring at 9pm. There will be 1 re-buy and/or top up for €20. You can also win tickets for the 2009 Cavan Poker Open with an estimated €20,000 prize pool.

This classic is another fund raiser for the vital and essential work that sub aqua club continues to do on an ongoing basis. Your support will be much appreciated.

Pilgrimage to Lough Derg

A one-day pilgrimage will take place on Sunday 23rd August leaving Lanesboro at 7am. This one-day pilgrimage has proven to be very successful with huge numbers attending. The full fare for the trip that includes island contribution and bus fare is €42. Early booking is advisable and you can book your place by phoning Mary at 3321969.

Bus to Salthill

Every Sunday during July and August Donnelly’s Bus service are running a bus to Galway and Salthill every Sunday. The bus leaves O’Brien’s Corner at 9.55am. For further information phone Donnelly’s at 6686540.

Fund-raising Céilí

The Fayne family is running a fund-raising céilí in aid of St. Vincent’s Centre, Dublin on Sunday 9th August 2009. The céilí will be held in St. Mary’s Parish Hall Lanesboro from 4 to 7pm. Music will be supplied by the very popular Annaly Band. Tickets for the event can be purchased from Claire Egan, John Fayne, Gabrielle Collins or any family member.

A great evening of music and craic is assured and it should not be missed. Get your dancing shoes polished and get ready for a great evening of dancing.
