Monster Bingo

If you travelled out to Clonbonny over the past few months you could not but be impressed with the work that the Rathcline club has undertaken. They have a wonderful clubhouse and dressing rooms and are now complimenting this fine structure with an equally impressive all-weather pitch. If you have not been there it would be worth your while just travelling out to see the great work. The cost of putting in this pitch is huge and the club are hoping to defray the cost with a Monster Bingo on Sunday next 13th September. The club is seeking the support of every Rathcline person throughout the world in supporting this wonderful and exciting development. The development will stand in recognition of not just the present crop of players and executive but the efforts of everybody from our founding members to today. I encourage your support in whatever way you can.

The Bingo will take place in both Ballyleague and Lanesboro Halls where patrons will be playing for a jackpot of €5000 and a total prize fund of €9,000. The first number will be called at 3pm and I look forward to seeing a magnificent crowd attending and supporting.

St. Faithleach’s in Semi Final

Congratulations to the St. Faithleach’s senior football team who had a wonderful win in their replay of the Roscommon championship quarter final in Hyde Park on Saturday last. The lads showed remarkable courage and grit in the final ten minutes where fortunes swung to and fro before Darragh Hussey stuck the ball in the net with practically the last kick of the game.

All roads lead back to Hyde Park on Sunday next where Faithleach’s take on Western Gaels for a place in the county final. The match has a 5.30pm throw in and hopefully there will be a huge crowd from the parish and indeed the Rathcline parish supporting them.

We wish them the very best of good luck and look forward to another victory on Sunday.

National Rural Transport Day

Friday next will be the celebration of the County Longford Rural Transport that has been an outstanding success throughout the county since its inception last year. Great credit must go to Seamus Lee and his group within LCRL that has introduced so successfully this very vital life line for so many rural dwellers. The difference it has made to their lives and indeed to the towns that the service runs to has been enormous. On the route on Friday to Lanesboro local TDs Peter Kelly and James Bannon have been invited to travel. Both TDs have voice their support for the retention of the Rural Transport Scheme. All existing passengers are urged to keep using the scheme and also to encourage others that have not yet availed of the service to do so immediately and see the wonderful benefits of the scheme.

The motto “Rural Transport connecting Rural Ireland” is one that has seen the enormous growth in the connection of people and the renewed confidence it has given to rural dwellers and particularly the elder residents.

Long may the Rural Transport Scheme continue and grow.
