Are you ready for Friday?
Friday night is Quirky Quiz night and a night that will be filled with a host of ‘Quirky’ questions. It is a quiz like no other where the questions will be quirky, wacky and most enjoyable. This is a first for our area and one that will be thoroughly enjoyed by everyone that will come to take part.
The quiz will be very unique as it will take place in all venues at the same time and there will be winning prizes for each venue and an overall winner.
There are a couple of things you need: Pick your venue -Adie’s, The Yacht Bar, Clarke’s Bar, Rosie’s at the Lifebelt or St. Faithleach’s clubhouse and have a sense of humour as this quiz is going to be really something else as quizzes go.
The first question will be asked at 9pm so be in situ and have a team or join up at an incomplete table. Come along and play your part. Tables of 4 cost €40 or individually €10.
All proceeds will go to the Lough Ree Monster Festival committee and the building of the Lough Ree Monster who will arrive from Lough Ree on Friday night 4th August.
Lough Ree Golfing Society
The Lough Ree Golfing Society will hold its first outing of 2017 to Birr Golf Club on this Wednesday 19th April with first tee at 11.30
To compete in the Captain’s Prize, you must have competed in a minimum of 2 outings.
There is always a welcome for new members who will be made very welcome
Enterprise Town Launch
We are delighted to announce that Lanesborough & Ballyleague will host a Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town on 12th May 2017. Through this initiative, Bank of Ireland and the business community of Lanesborough & Ballyleague will work together to support local enterprise. In addition, we will involve the wider community and our local schools through a range of different activities.
To learn more about the exciting plans for your Enterprise Town and how you can get involved, come along to our launch event on this Wednesday night 19th April at 8.30pm in St Faithleach’s Club House.
Lough Ree Monster Meeting
A meeting of the Lough Ree Monster committee will take place on this Wednesday night 19th April in Clarke’s bar at 9pm. If you have an interest in the festival or any of our upcoming events or projects please come along. New people are always welcome.
Lanesboro Community Games
On Sunday 30th April at12:30, Lanesboro Community Games Track and Field will take place on the Track in Lanesboro.
Events are open for Girls\Boys U8 to U16.
Community Games are exactly what it says with the emphasis on the word Community. Every parent and every child in our community should be taking part in one form or other of the huge array of competition within the Community Games. The track and Field event taking place on Sunday 30th should be supported by everyone whether taking part or not and let it be a show of community strength and support for those taking part.

Sympathy
We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Michael Feeney, Killashee, his sons Pierce, James and Michael and his wife Mary, The Green and daughters Josephine and Patricia, relatives and friends on the death Wednesday last of Mrs. Kay Feeney, Killashee. Kay and her husband Michael had been residents of 30 The Green for many years prior to relocating to Killashee.
Lanesboro Bridge Club

1st Session winner: Gemma Douglas and 2nd Session winner was Una Lawlor.

Support for local Draws
There are 3 local draws taking place in our community and each of them should be supported as the work each group does within our community. All draw only cost €2 weekly although in some cases there are yearly options.
The longest running of the 3 is the Lanesboro Tourism Lottery and it is clearly visible throughout the town as to the great work being done and it can only be happening through your great and continuous support.
The second weekly draw is the Rathcline 50/50 draw which takes place each Monday night. The winning pool each week is in and around the €400 mark and invariably goes to local people. There is a yearly option of €100 for 52 draws
The third draw takes place every fortnight and the draw takes place in St. Faithleach’s clubhouse. It is the St. Faithleach’s club and like the previously mentioned draw the monies goes towards the further development of all the club players and developments. There are yearly options of €50 for 1 line or €100 for 3 lines.
Your continued support for one and all of the draws is greatly appreciated.
The Lanesboro Tourism lottery jackpot last week stood at €6,200 and there was no winner of the jackpot. The numbers drawn were 1, 4, 20 and 23. The winner of the €50 prize was Brendan Whitty, Clonbonny and the three €20 prizes were won by Caolaín Ó Ceallaig, c/oXlentee, Maura Hanly, Lehery and M & P Brewster c/o Yacht bar.
The winner of the Rathcline 50/50 draw on Monday 10th April was Gerry O’Donnell, Curraghroe who won €388.
The St. Faithleach’s Lottery jackpot last draw was not won, the numbers drawn were 2, 14, 18 and 23. The winners of the five €20 prizes were Eilish Kilcommins, Shay Rohan, Keelin Gallagher, Mairéad Thompson and Jack, Ciaran and Darragh Mc Gloin. The jackpot stands at €12,000
Church Gate Collection
At all masses on Saturday and Sunday next 22nd and 23rd April there will be a Church Gate Collection at St. Mary’s Church in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. We encourage everyone to be as generous as possible.

Death
Sunday 9th April proved another sad day in the parish and especially the Rathcline Road community when news broke of the death at Roscommon University Hospital of another of the gentlemen of our community Seamus Carroll. Seamus until recently had been out and about and he passed away after a short illness. Seamus returned from England to live amongst us and he was a hugely popular figure by everyone that knew him. Seamus was a man big in stature and big in heart. He was a quiet man who had a wonderful interest in sport hurling and football, horse racing (although he never bet) and rugby. Seamus was a regular attendee at matches and he was a shrewd observer and his commentary afterward was always worth heeding. Seamus was a wonderful neighbour and friend and his passing will leave a great sadness in our community and everyone that had the pleasure to know him.
His remains reposed at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon before being removed to St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro on Tuesday. Following his Funeral mass on Wednesday he was laid to rest alongside his parents in Rathcline Cemetery. To his brother Michael, sisters Kay and Mary (Devanney), the extended Carroll family, relatives and friends we extend our deepest sympathy.
Referee for the present and future
The Dublin Kerry National Football League Final in Croke Park was a riveting affair with Dublin seeking a five-in-a-row and Kerry bidding to stop them. Just like their previous game in Tralee a few weeks back this was a tight and tense struggle between the two strongest sides in the country.
In the days leading up to the final there was an amount of controversy about the appointment of the referee for the final and that he had not done a Division 1 game in the National League.
Little did the pundits, that had shown the concern, know that the final was in probably the safest hands in the country.
Paddy Neilan son of Paddy and Bernadette Neilan, Lough Ree Park has been steadily and quietly rising the ranks within Roscommon, Connaught and the National Referee’s panel over the past number of years. Paddy has been a safe pair of hands and on Sunday last, he proved just that with an excellent performance. I am certain that this game is only the start of the big time for Paddy and he will go on to referee All-Ireland Finals
Well done Paddy on a terrific performance.

Enterprise Town Launch Wednesday
The Lanesboro and Ballyleague Community has been nominated to be the Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town. The Enterprise Town Expo will take place in Lanesboro Community College on Friday 12th May.
RACE NIGHT
There will be a Race Night, in aid of those suffering from Motor Neurone Disease, in The Pier Inn, Lisnacusha, Lanesboro, this Saturday the 29th April at 9.00 p.m. Dance away to the Disco which takes place after it.

Foreign Currency Appeal Reminder

Cloontuskert Cemetery
Cloontuskert Cemetery Committee is launching their 2017 work program next weekend on Saturday and Sunday 15th-16th April. Following on from last year’s successful completion of our memorial/reflection garden on the entrance avenue to the Cemetery. We now propose to erect a monument in the Cemetery to honour the memory of all interred in the Cemetery. The proposed monument will consist of a scene taken from the Garden of Getzemene.
A life size sculpture of Jesus been comforted by an Angel resting on a base erected to the height of the surrounding wall, the sculpture and base will be made of mid grey granite.
The committee appeal to everyone who have loved ones interred in the Cemetery or who intend to use the Cemetery in the future to support what will be our last major financial project. We have chosen this sculpture as we feel it will offer comfort and solace to everyone visiting the graves of their loved ones. It will also become the focal point of our cemetery and form a striking image as you enter the Cemetery. It is hoped to have the sculpture erected for Cemetery Sunday on 13th August where it will be blessed and dedicated to the memory of everyone interred in the cemeteries. The cost of this Sculpture and associated works is €15,000 which we hope to raise through donations and sponsorship if you wish to be associated with this project you can make a donation at our church gate collection on 29th-30 April envelopes containing a detailed drawing and picture of the monument can be picked up in the church porches in the parish and in Lanesboro church you can also make a donation to any committee member. Receipts will be issued on request for tax purposes

Give Blood
Blood donation clinics will take place in the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon on Tuesday 25th, Wednesday 26th, and Thursday 27th April. With the constant need for blood it is very important that if you can at all go along and donate some blood. Your contribution can be the difference between life and death and although you will never know your inner feeling will remind you of this fact. The blood clinic will take place from 5pm to 8.30pm on each of the days.

Building the Monster

Safeguarding Workshop

Rathcline GAA
All County League
Saturday evening last was our second game in the Division 2 league and our first home game when we welcomed Sean Connolly’s to Clonbonny.
We had a great first half turning over at half time with a 6point lead 0-11 to 0-5. The second half was a back to the wall half where we struggled to maintain Connolly’s comeback. As we approached full time we were hanging on to a 3-point lead when Connolly’s pounced for a goal to level the game. One final attack should the determination of the team when they went down the field and Liam Connerton scored from a free to leave us 1 point victors.
Well done to the panel and management and it is great to have two victories in the first two games.
Saturday evening next, we travel to Ballybrien to play Ballymore in the third round and we look forward to a good number travelling to support.
Get Well
We wish Conor Mc Grath a speedy recover as he recovers from surgery following an injury sustained in the game on Saturday evening last.
50/50
Monday night last the 50/50 took place in the Yacht Bar. The winning pool amounted to €388 and the winner was Gerry O’Donnell, Curraghroe. The club says thank you for your continued support.

Punchestown:
The trip to Punchestown is a great day out for Longford Football. This year we hope that we can gain support from all local racing aficionados and those interested in a great social day out to the Annual Punchestown Festival on Wednesday 26th April 2017 in support of Longford GAA. Rathcline will be entering its usual table and we are looking for support and we hope that we can fill 2 tables -20 people. Féile Final: Hard luck to our Féile squad who went down on a 2-point margin in their final in Pearse Park on Saturday last
Minors: The Minor Final scheduled for Monday has been postponed and we await a new date for the final.
U16: Our U16 team will play Granard Ballymore in Clonbonny on Thursday night at 7pm.
