Mickey Harte comes to Lanesboro

Tyrone football manager Mickey Harte will be the guest of honour at the Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town in Lanesboro and Ballyleague on Friday next 12th May at Lanesboro Community College. The arrival of such a high-profile person will create its own excitement and will surely increase attendance at the expo.

As part of the expo there will be a business panel discussion and also a sporting panel discussion during the expo with local business and sporting celebrities offering their thoughts and views.

If you are from the area there is still time to register your interest in putting in a stand at this expo.

If you are from the area, if you are passing through Lanesboro/Ballyleague or why not come home for the weekend and drop in on Friday evening. It is very important for our community that the event will be a massive success. The opportunity to highlight your business, club or association is massive and you should vail of this opportunity.

You can enter Enterprise Town Registration Form into your search engine, print it off and hand it into to the manager at BOI Longford or Roscommon, or hand it into O’Brien’s Corner Shop, Rosie’s at the Lifebelt, The Yacht Bar as soon as possible. It is very important that you register early as to allow the committee organise spaces for each stall.

The idea of Bank of Ireland Enterprise Town programme is to bring local businesses, education, sports and cultural organisations together, boosting the participating town’s economic activity.

It is about everyone in the general community knowing what each person does and uses their local businesses to help develop new alliances within the area.

Come along and be part of something that will be special and fantastic in our community on Friday.

Lough Ree Golfing Society

The next outing of the Lough Ree Golfing Society is to Castle Barna Golf Club in Daingean Co Offaly, on this Wednesday 10th May. The tee booked from 11.30 to 12.30.

This is a very nicely laid out quite tricky course, and will be very enjoyable to play, so enjoy.

If you are a keen golfer and have not yet joined up with the Lough Ree Golfing Society then Wednesday week is an ideal opportunity for you to go along.

Tourism with Business Course

Longford College of Further Education are now enrolling for the Tourism with Business level 5 & 6 courses beginning September 2017. Cronan top Entrepreneur

Many congratulations to local lad Cronan Flood, Lehery who along with his fellow students Sam Maxwell and James Carroll made his parents Jimmy and Brigid, their school and indeed their local communities very proud when they were announces as runners up in the National Local Student Enterprise Programme the national final of which was held in Croke Park.

Their innovation was the J&S Kitchen Aid which is a cutting knife protector which is particularly useful to people suffering with Arthritis or Tendonitis.

The three lads got the opportunity to display their innovation on RTÉs Late Late Show on Friday night last and there is no doubt that this innovation will be hugely popular and will be a big seller for them in the weeks and years ahead.

Tourism Co-Op Draw

The numbers drawn in the Lanesboro Tourism lotto last week Tuesday 2nd May were 2, 13,21 and 26. There was no winner of the jackpot and the jackpot for Tuesday will be €6,700.

The €50 winner was Bernie Gillen, c/o Mags and the three €20 winners were Aileen Fallon, Catherine Hannon and Jack Farrell c/o Xlntee.

Summer Kayak Camp

The annual Kayak Summer Camp will take place in Lanesboro/Ballyleague from Monday 26th June to Friday 30th June. The camp will be for ages 10 to 17-year-old. For further details or to book your place phone 087 2977769 or 087 6675275. Book early and avoid disappointment.

Kilgefin Community Games

This Friday evening 12th May at St. Faithleach’s pitch at 7pm the Kilgefin Community Games will take place. There will be events for all ages U6 to U16 and every young person in the parish should go along compete and have lots of fun.  The entry fee is €2 per child. Wedding

The marriage took place at St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro of Therese Hanly, daughter of Maura and the late Peter Hanly and Neil O’Connor, son of Oliver and Janette O’Connor, Carrig Tuathail, Co. Cork. The chief bridesmaid was Linda Steward friend of the bride, bridesmaids were Noeleen Donlon and Aoife Quinn both friends of the bride. Bestman was Alan O’Connor brother of the groom and groomsmen were Alan O’Keeffe and Brian Curtin friends of the groom. Page Boys were Declan Murnin and Tom Morrissey nephews of the bride and groom. Flower girls were Mairéad Hanly and Kara Hanly both nieces of the bride. The marriage ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Michael Reilly, Lanesboro. The wedding reception took place at the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone.

We wish the happy couple many years of wedded bliss.

Did you do your Leaving Cert. in the Convent of Mercy in 1977? Seeking Cúl Camp Helpers

If any young person is interested in assisting at the Cúl Camps this summer then they should express their interest in doing so to Longford County Board in writing and the expression of interest should be signed by the person wishing to take part and also signed by a parent/guardian. You must indicate the number of camps that you are available to attend.

Any young person under eighteen wishing to be a helper or an assistant coach should also make sure a parent/guardian signs the parental consent form for E -vetting for the named child. E-vetting is a must for children assisting at camps. There is a step by step guide available on the Longford GAA website www.longfordgaa.ie

Please note as from Monday 15th May the opening hours have changed to summer opening times and they are as follows. Monday 10.30am -1pm and 2pm – 5.30pm, Tuesday 2pm – 6pm
Wednesday 2pm – 8pm, Thursday Closed, Friday 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm, Saturday 10am – 1pm

Children’s Art Classes

Children’s Art Classes continue on Saturday mornings. Group 1 from 10-11am and Group 2 from 11-12noon.

Foreign Currency Appeal Reminder

We are still collecting unwanted foreign currency and old coins/notes in aid of ISPCC. The smallest donation can make a huge difference.  Used stamps also being collected at the library for ISPCC. Thank you.

Wedding

The marriage took place at the Church of the Holy Rosary, Ballyleague of Katie Carberry, daughter of Deirdre and the late Brendan Carberry, Killinure and Keith Curran son of Paddy and Karen Curran, Newtownforbes. Chief bridesmaid was Michelle Carroll friend of the bride and bridesmaids were Sharon Sheridan friend of the bride and Trina Curran sister of the groom. Bestman was Stephen Curran brother of the groom and groomsmen were Eddie Curran brother of the groom and Kevin Carberry brother of the bride. Page Boys were Rory and Fionn Curran and Conor Kilcoyne and Flower Girl was Chloe Kilcoyne. The wedding ceremony was celebrated by Rev Dusmanta Mahanyak, Ballyleague. The wedding reception took place in the Athlone Springs Hotel. We wish the happy couple many years of wedded happiness.

Lough Ree Monster Meeting Wednesday

The now weekly meeting of the Lough Ree Monster committee will take place on this Wednesday night 10th May in St. Mary’s Hall at 9pm. The programme is now being finalised and if you have ideas or want to take part in the group you input would be appreciated.

Ladies Marathon

It is coming to that time of the year again when the Ladies Mini Marathon will take place in Dublin on Monday 5th June.

If you are training for the race and are wondering about how to get there on the day then you answer is right here. Pam Farrell will be organising a bus to travel to Dublin on the morning of the race. If you would like to book a seat then you should get in contact with Pam on 087-4146987 after 6pm any evening.

Giving Blood in Longford

The Blood Donor clinic will take place on this Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th May in the Longford Arms Hotel. The clinic will be open from 4.30 to 8pm each day and we hope that a great number from the area will attend and Give Blood. Your donation can and will save lives and bring much happiness to families.

Rathcline GAA

50/50

Monday night last 1st May the 50/50 took place in The Yacht Bar. The winning pool amounted to €390 and the winner was Monica Healy, Newtowncashel. The club would like to say well done to Monica and thank everyone for your continued support.

Tickets are on sale locally at €2 each and your support will be greatly appreciated. Alternatively, you can by the pink ticket for the year for just €100 and have 2 free weeks

The John Drake Cup game, our second team, will take place in Clonbonny on Saturday evening next. It will be a local derby when the team will take on Killashee in what promises to be a very entertaining game. The throw in will take place at 7pm and your support will be greatly appreciated.

Minor Club

The fixtures for the coming week are: U13 travel to Granard to play Granard Ballymore, the U16 team will have a bye this week.

It was a rewarding week for our teams, the Juveniles beat Shamrock Gaels on Sunday, the minors drew with St. Francis and our U14 team beat Fr. Manning Gaels.

Cúl Camp dates: The Cúl camps will take place in Rathcline from Monday 24th to Friday 28th July. The cost of Cúl Camps this year is €60 for 1st child, second child €50 and third/fourth €40.
