Lough Ree 2000 Bridge Club

Sad Passing of Past President

The untimely passing of Bridie Deffew, Rathcline Rd. Lanesboro, has caused much regret in the area and especially by all her colleagues in the Lough Ree 2000 Bridge Club. Bridie had been a member of the club since its formation in 2000, during which time she played a very active role in the club, both at local and regional level. In 2009 she held the honorary position of President of the club. She enjoyed her game of bridge immensely and was always pleasant and cheerful. Bridie will be sadly missed by all the bridge members. On this very sad occasion, the club wishes to extend its sincere sympathy to her loving family, Nevin, Francis, Eilish and Sorcha.

 May she rest in peace.

Championship update.

On Saturday evening last both local teams kept their interest alive in the senior championships of Longford and Roscommon.

In the Roscommon championship St. Faithleach’s had a convincing victory over St. Roans in Ballyleague before a big crowd. This was a game they had to win to qualify them from the league section of the championship. Following a whirlwind start where they raced into a commanding lead they led by 2.4 to 0-2 points at half time and from then on were never in trouble running out 2.7 to 0-8 point winners.

Unlike St. Faithleach’s, Rathcline had a slow start and after 15 minutes they were down 1-2 to 0-2 but a storming finish to the half seen them lead 1-5 to Abbeylara’s 1-4. It was nip and tuck for the second half and after 60 minutes both teams finished on a 1-8 each scoreline. Going to press the relay will take place provisionally on Sunday next in Pearse Park as part of double header which will a local derby between Killoe and Edgeworthstown.

Well done to both teams and we look forward to many more days out in the championship for both St. Faithleach’s and Rathcline.
