Defibrillator Course in January

A new Defibrillator course will take place in January and the organisers are urgently seeking many new people to take the opportunity of getting trained in the use of defibrillators. As this is a down time it is important that all clubs and organisations on both sides of the bridge encourage their members to attend and get trained up.

Rarely a day goes by in a workplace, sporting events or in public places that a person’s knowledge in the use of the defibrillator in not required hence the great need to have all area and events covered with people with the required knowledge.

Ballyboro

Not a brilliant weekend in terms of results. The under 11 team played extremely well against Ardagh, taking into account that five of the team of seven are eligible for the under 10 grades. A well taken goal by Rian Shanley saw the Ballyboro lads in front at the interval, but the team understandably tired in the second half and Ardagh took advantage with three late goals. Team: Michael Sorohan, Eoin Beattie, Ethan Slattery, Dan Casey, Rian Hogan, Ryan Mimnagh, Rian Hogan.
The under 14 team did well in the first half against a highly rated Stonepark team, but the Longford side had the better of the second half exchanges, to win well 6-1. Jack Flynn got the Ballyboro goal. Team: Briain Farrell, Luke Dowd, Paul Byrne, Rian Byrne, Bryan Mullooly, Jimmy Farrell, Shane Ross, Jack Flynn, Cormac O’Dowd, Christy Burke, Matthew Heneghan. Subs: Ciaran O’Dowd, Jack McGloin.
The under 13 team played Newtown in a closely contested friendly game.
The under 16 team coped well with the difficult underfoot conditions for long periods in their game against Newtown, but the Newtownforbes lads finished the stronger team to win 3-0. Ballyboro: Jack Madigan, Conor Casey, Shane Killian, Chris O’Loughlin, Kevin McDonagh, Oisin Kenny, Kevin Tansey, Niall Fisher, Owen Farrell, Jack Murray, Rian Murphy.
The Last Man Standing fundraiser is generating a lot of interest and Mark Tarmey is kept busy keeping track of all the entries. As we face into round 3 there are still 240 last men/women still standing. Approx. 260 have bitten the dust.

Fixtures: The under 8s will be participating on a Blitz in Drumlish on Saturday, starting at 11am.Other teams involved are Gaels United and Melview. The under 14 team are away to Ballymahon on Sunday with a 12.30 kick off. Ballymahon also provide the opposition for the under 16 team who are at home on Sunday with a 2pm start.

Rathcline GAA – ‘Be with us Be a part of Us’.

Minor AGM

Last Sunday evening the Minor AGM took place before a dismal attendance. It is such a shame that so few people bothered to turn up and discuss the past years successes and plan a route forward for the year ahead. If people did not want a job, then this was the meeting to be at as all the executive had expressed a determination to stay for another year prior to the meeting. The executive elected for the coming year was Chairman – Alan Fayne, Vice Chairman – Sean Kenny, Secretary – Seadna Ryan, Treasurer – Mary T Mc Grath, Ass Secretary – Vinny Farrell.

The club tanks the executive for all their work and success over the past 12 months and wish them the best of luck and every success in 2019.

Defibrillator

The club is seeking names of people that are interested in helping out the club by completing the defibrillator course to take place in January. We look forward to a good number of parents of the underage club and supporters and officials from all our clubs to give their names and phone numbers to the minor (Seadna) or senior (Cathal) secretaries or to Martina O’Brien at the corner shop.

Successful Final Game

On Friday night last our U20 players travelled to Kenagh along with the Grattan’s U20 players for the final against CarrickSarsfields in our final game of the season. Having recently lost to Carrickedmond and CarrickSarsfields we were pinning our hopes on this being third time lucky for our players. They did not disappoint and after a titanic struggle they emerged victors by two points. The scoreline alone tells of the number of scores and tightness of the game – the half time score of the Rathcline Grattan’s combination winning the first half by one point 1.6 to 0.8 and winning the second half by a similar margin with the final score being 2.13 to 1.14. This was a thrilling game made all the more famous when you consider the loss of Oran Kenny after just 15 mins due to injury. Considering we were underdogs going into the game the lads really stood up and were counted. They gave a wonderful performance with a number of players taking hold of the game and spurring everyone on to this famous victory. A game to be savoured, a game that showed the quality of the big numbers of lads now stepping into the senior ranks.

We congratulate all the lads from Rathcline and Grattan’s who have put in a great effort in what was a long season for the U20 panel. The mentors of Anthony Farrell and Cathal Chapman from Rathcline and Gerry Victory and Jim Ruske have to be complimented for a fantastic job well done.

The Rathcline lads on the panel were Cian Gilmore, Owen Murray, Daniel Curran, Cillian Flood, Cronan Flood, Iarla O’Sullivan, Dylan Glancy, Padraig Sorohan, Niall Keane, Oran Kenny Bryn Peters, Éanna Mc Grath, James Gavigan and Mark Lyons and they were complimented by 6 players from Grattan’s. We say a heartiest congratulations to this historic team.

Good Luck

The club would like to wish Mullinalaghta the very best of luck in the Leinster Final in Tullamore on Sunday at 1.30pm. The club would encourage all of its supporters that can go to Tullamore to travel and support Mullinalaghta and hopefully be there for a historic victory for the club and county.

The 50/50 drive for Christmas has started.

Amazingly there was a family connection to the previous week’s winner as Murell Fallon is an aunt of Ann Kelly. The club is very appreciative to Ann and her extended family for their weekly support of the weekly 50/50

The club thanks everyone for their continued support and encourage everyone to persist in your support as your name will surely be drawn out soon.  Tickets are on sale in local shops and businesses throughout the town at €2 each or 3 tickets for €5.
