Congratulations
to the Men’s Grade 6 Lanesboro Team who had to overcome injuries as well as
draft in their sub to go on and win the Midland League Grade 6 Men’s
Competition. Also well done to the Ladies Grade 6 who were runners-up in the
Midland League Grade 6 Ladies Competition, both finals were played on Tuesday
5th of April in Ballymore. The men’s team is, Stephen Herraty, Frank Casey,
Noel Moran, Kieran Healy and sub Ronán Cullen. The ladies team was Maura Duffy,
Edel Mc Dermott, Regina Scally, Gráinne Gallagher and sub Mary Rohan. Tough
matches were played by all and we have gained some more silverware for our
efforts. The matches are not finished yet so best of luck to all travelling to
Baldoyle in Dublin.

Serious Dog
Problems

A
number of local farmers have asked me to ask every dog owner to ensure that
their dog is under their care at all times. Presently, there is a huge problem
with dogs causing the death of sheep and lambs in the area. This is a serious
loss to the farmers and the onus is on every dog owner to make certain that
their dog is not running loose and causing the death of the sheep.

Keep Lanesboro
and Ballyleague Tidy

As
you have been noticing there is a tremendous amount of work being done in
beautifying both Lanesboro and Ballyleague. The committees on both sides of the
bridge are very active in enhancing their own areas and our community. There is
a tremendous onus on each and every one of us to ensure that their work is
being kept to a minimum by making sure the areas in front of our homes and
premises are kept spotlessly clean.

There is a big responsibility to all dog
owners to make sure that their pets do not soil the footpaths and that they
carry a pooper scoop with them on their daily walks.

There
is also a tremendous responsibility on all parents of the young people that are
again frequenting under the bridge in the evenings and the playground area to
ensure that underage drinking is not taking place. Not alone is it illegal,
antisocial and unhealthy but this is a cause of dreadful littering and danger
to all the young people coming to use the children’s playground and fishermen
to the Shannon banks with cans and bottles littered everywhere.

Ballyleague
Clean Up

After a very encouraging start to the annual Spring
Clean of the Village last weekend the Ballyleague Tidy Towns and Village
Renewal Group will move into overdrive over the coming days with a series of
projects lined up to help continue the improvements. Local residents, students
and business owners are now invited to join the clean-up at 6.30pm on Wednesday
evening and 10am on Saturday morning – this week and every week from now on. The
volunteers will meet at the old Sliabh Bawn (Anchor) Hotel and then move around
the village. Special help is now required to work on the kerbed area (under the
stone wall) directly opposite Ballyleague national School between the Sliabh
Bawn and the Church of the Holy Rosary. This is a difficult area to work in but
four different proposals to landscape this area are now under consideration. If
you have earth-moving equipment available for use please come out and help us
on Saturday next April 16th at 10am. Bring a shovel or a spade with you! For
more information please contact Chairman Denis Dunne at 0433321150 or e mail: keepballyleaguetidy@gmail.com.
Finally the committee is this week appealing to each and every resident and
business owner in Ballyleague to come out and give a lick of paint to their
front wall in the coming weeks. Everybody has a role to play in improving the
look of the village. Please help us out!
