Lanesboro Ballyleague notes 18th April 2011

Lanesboro
Ballyleague Notes

Graduate Employee of the Year

A
wonderful honour was bestowed on local man Dwain Tarmey, Anntrabeg, who was
announced as the Graduate Employee of the Year on Wednesday last at the Gradireland
awards in Dublin. Dwain, son of Martin and Bernie Tarmey, is a former student
of Cloontuskert NS, Lanesboro Community College and Athlone IT. The award for Dwain
is richly deserved when one reads of the impact his work has made to his
employers VistaMed since taking up his position in February 2009. His work has
made a huge impact on the life of osteoporosis patients allowing them to leave
hospital after just 24 hours with improved mobility, reduced pain and a much
greater quality of life.

Again
we congratulate Dwain for his wonderful work and join with his family celebrating
the acknowledgement of his work and marvellous achievement

Lough Ree AC

After
a winter in Ballyleague hall, a facility the club appreciates very much the
club will be going outdoors, after Easter, now that the evenings are getting
longer.

Only
four from the club made the journey to Sligo for a newly organised 4 county
competition, (Roscommon, Longford, Sligo and Leitrim). This was quiet successful,
with a good turnout but several of the Lough Ree Club members had other commitments.
Still, the club managed two gold medals; Orla Keane was successful in the 60m
sprint while Larissa Noone won the shot competition.

Larissa
and Enda travelled to Athlone on Sunday for the Connaught squad coaching
session. Not for the first time Enda impressed the coaches with her javelin
throwing, the problem is to impress Enda that she has the natural ability for
this event.

The
club hopes to organise its annual social evening presentation during the Easter
holidays. The bad weather at Christmas forced it to be put on the ‘long finger’!

The
Primary Schools Sports Day is coming up in May followed by the Roscommon county
championships. Both fixtures are at Lanesboro’s all-weather track. Be prepared!

Lanesboro Badminton Club

We
would like to say well done to the Grade 6 Mixed Lanesboro Team who travelled
to Whitehall Dublin to compete in the semi-finals of the Leinster Inter League
competition on Sunday last17th, unfortunately. despite multiple injuries on the
team and closely fought matches we lost out to the ESB team. The team was,
Kieran Healy, Keith Healy, Noel Moran, Charlie Mc Conway, Maura Duffy, Edel Mc
Dermott, Regina Scally, Gráinne Gallagher and subs Donal Casey and Mary Rohan.
Well done to all for a valiant effort and dedication throughout. The matches
are not finished yet with some team members competing in the individual
competitions over the next few weeks in Baldoyle in Dublin.

Lanesboro Community Games

The Lanesboro Community Games Athletics competition
will take place on Tuesday 3rd of May at the Track.
Competitions for all children from U/8 to u/16.    The
Swimming County Finals will take place Mid May.  If anyone is interested
in representing Lanesboro at the Finals, please contact Teresa Ryan before May
1st.

The parish community games kit, which is required
when competing at County Events such as the athletics county finals, needs to
be replaced.  Some funding has been received from the ESB in support of
this and we are thankful of that but additional fundraising will be
required.  While our church gate collection was very successful and we are
very grateful for this, this is totally accounted for by the on-going costs of
affiliation fees, medals and sundry expenses.

U14 League Div. 3 Round 5

Southern Gaels
8-13 V 2-10 Shannon
Gaels
at Pairc Ciaran

Our U14 team were out in their 3rd league game on Friday 15th April in Cashel.

Even though the final score did not give a true reflection of the game we were
competitive until the final quarter.

A weakened squad due to injury proved too much an ask for the lads. Keep
the chin up lads.

The next completive game takes place on Mon 18th April in Clonbonny at 6.45pm
against Kenagh.

U16 League Div. 2 Round 1

St. Colmcille’s
5-16 V 3-11 Shannon
Gaels
at McGee Park

Our U16 squad had a bad result for their 1st competitive  game of the
year, but if we learn

from our mistakes we can  do well in this league with our next two games,
at home.  Challenge match organised for this Tuesday 19th in
Clonbonny at 7.00pm against near neighbours, Southern Gaels.

Cumann Na mBunscoil Div. 3 Final

Ballymahon 1-10 Fermoyle 2-6

Hard luck to Fermoyle
Girls who were beaten in Cumann Na mBunscoil final on Thurs evening last.

Ballymahon NS edged out Fermoyle NS in a thrilling Division Three Final at
sunny Pearse Park recently. Fermoyle NS will be extremely disappointed with the
outcome of this contest especially after they held the lead right up until the
last phase of action when in stoppage time a point from Ballymahon sealed their
fate.

Things were looking
good for Lanesboro School and in the early exchanges of the second half they
lead by three points. Ballymahon however continued to chip away at the deficit
and with stoppage time looming snatched the victory from the jaws of
defeat.

Fermoyle team: Olivia Lisle, Haley Rooney,
Hannah Shea, Anna Peters, Tanya Farrell, Sarah Farrell, Grace Brennan, Niamh
Chawke, Rachel Ginty.

Longford Minors:
Hard luck to our clubman Aaron Madden and Longford minors following their
defeat to Kildare on Saturday. Let’s hope ye get a favourable draw in
qualifiers next week.

Training resumes as usual on Thurs for U6 to U12 at
7.00pm in Clonbonny.

Congrats to the Rathcline Senior team who had a well-deserved victory over
Carrickedmond on Friday evening.

Rathcline
GAA

a final score of 1 – 13 to 14 points.

subject to change so please keep an eye on fixtures. Please come along and
support the team.

festival which takes place on Wed 14th May, please contact Liam
Connerton as soon as possible to book your seat.
