Ladies Mini
Marathon Bus

Anybody
wishing to avail of the bus to the Ladies Mini Marathon on Monday 6th
June is asked to contact Pam Farrell to reserve your seat. Phone Pam at
087-4146987 any day after 6pm.

Work Scheme

Last
year introduced a work scheme where members of the Shannon Gaels club, both
male and female, made themselves available for work and the scheme proved to be
a wonderful success. The club are again offering this services and the young
members of the club will undertake to foot turf, mow lawns, do house work,
clean up area around house etc. If you are interested in having these young
club members helping with your work then contact, Sean Kenny, Jimmy Flood, Joe
O’Brien, Seadna Ryan or Brendan Keane

Lough Ree Golfing Society

A
very enjoyable day’s golf was had by all at Mountbellew Golf Course on Saturday
last 30th April.

The
course was in good condition, the weather was marvellous and the food in the
club house afterwards was greatly appreciated.

The
society wish to express their thanks to all at Mountbellew golf club for the
warm welcome and pleasant surroundings. There had six three balls and two four
balls and the winners were: 1st with a great score of 40 points:
Willie Weldon; 2nd with 35 points: Michael Simpson. The front nine was won by
our captain, Sean Brennan with 16 points

and
the back nine was won by Charlie Brennan who had 20 points. Nearest the pin on
the 5th was won by Tom Nohilly (sponsored by Brendan Whitty).

The

visitor’s prize with a good score of 37 points was won by Ollie Hannon.
Congratulations to all and well done to the rest for making the day such a huge
success.

The
next outing for Lough Ree Golfing society is on Saturday, 28th May, at Roscommon
Golf Course, for the Captain, Sean Brennan’s Prize Day.

The
society is looking forward to a great day at this very popular local course and
we wish Sean all the best for his Prize Day.

The
society also has an outing to Mullingar on Friday the 15th July and
another to New Forrest in September at a date to be announced.

Lanesboro Social Services Whist Drive

The
monthly whist drive in aid of Lanesboro Social Services will take place on this
Friday night 6th May in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Lanesboro Social
Services does Trojan work each week, month and year and your support for the whist
drive is the primary reason for their work to continue. As usual the game will
commence at 8.30pm and a great night of fun and card playing is assured. The
customary refreshments will be served.

Development Co-Op

The
staff of the Lough Ree Co-Op was made redundant on Friday last 24th
April. The staff, Teresa Costello, Freda Connaughton, Liz Keane, Shane Moran,
Brian O’Reilly, Jimmy Greally and TJ Walsh, would like to thank the people of
the local community and surrounding areas for their support, encouragement and
help over the years.

Wedding

The
marriage took place at St. Mary’s Church, Lanesboro of Denise Collins daughter
of Peter and Beatrice Collins, Barnacor and Gerard Power son of Noel and Noreen
Power, Tobernea, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick. Chief bridesmaid was Michelle
Killian, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Caroline Oates, friend of the
bride and Maria Kilcline, friend of the bride.

Bestman
was David Curran, friend of the groom and groomsmen were John Power brother of
the groom and George Burchill, friend of the groom. The pageboy was Conor
Power, nephew of the groom and Flower girls were Aimee Killian and Myah Collins
both nieces of the bride. The marriage ceremony was celebrated by Fr. Liam
Enright, cousin of the groom assisted by Fr. Michael Reilly, Lanesboro. The wedding
celebrations took place in the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone.

We
wish the happy couple many years of wedded happiness.

Rathcline Ladies

The
Rathcline ladies had a great start to the season when they beat Longford Slashers
in Clonbonny on, today, Monday. Let’s hope it is the beginning of a new dawn
for the Ladies football club

Sympathy

We
would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Michael and Marie Cleary and
family, Moneen, on the death of Michael’s mother Mrs Mary Bridget Cleary,
Shinrone, Co. Offaly recently.

Rathcline GAA

Hard
luck to the senior team who were defeated by Ballymahon in the league last
Saturday evening with a scoreline of 1-07 to 0-05. Next up for the team is
Granard this Saturday May 7th at 7.30pm in Clonbonny. Please come
along and support the team.

The
players’ fundraising committee are organising a sponsored climb of Croagh
Patrick on Saturday 14th May for all players. A contribution will be
made to the St. Mary’s Church Refurbishment Fund. We would appreciate your
generous support for this fundraiser.

is fast approaching and it is time to get you’re your young athletes tuned up
for what is traditionally a wonderful day out for all the young athletes.

As
it the good weather we are now encountering is not sign enough Monday next will
really announce the beginning of the summer.

Yes,
Roscommon Races are back for a new season in Lenebane, starting on Monday next
9th May. Roscommon Races are hugely popular with all the local of
the area and there is not a better way to pass an evening than among friends enjoying
the spills and thrills that are thrown up at Roscommon Races

Go
along and enjoy a great evening out. The dates for the coming season of
Roscommon Races are Monday 9th May, Family Day 12th June,
Monday 13th June, Ladies Day 4th July, Tuesday 5th
July, Tuesday 2nd August, Monday 15th August, Monday 5th

Minor Club

Our
U12 squad had a very enjoyable game on Thursday evening last against Slashers.
With a panel of 25 it was great to see everyone playing some part in the game.
We would like to thank Slashers for this valuable challenge.

Best of luck to Lanesboro Primary School in their schools semi final on Wednesday when they play Killashee NS.

Best
of luck to Fermoyle School team who play Ballinamuck in Cumann Na MBunscoil semi-final
in Ballinamuck on Thursday evening 5th May at 5.00pm.

Our
U14’s had a break last week due to holidays. They play Grattan’s on Friday 6th
May in Clonbonny at 7.00pm in last game of group.

Let’s
hope they can do enough to guarantee a semi-final placing.

Our
U16‘s play Granard/Ballymore in their 2nd game in Division 2 on
Thursday in Clonbonny at 7.00pm.Our U10’s are out on Thursday in their 1st
Blitz of year in Slashers. Well Done to Longford Minors last week who defeated
close neighbours Westmeath in the 1st round of the Qualifiers.

Best
of luck next Saturday in the 2nd round against Wicklow at 3.00pm in
Pearse Park

Training
will take place this Thursday for U6 & U8 only.

Kilgefin Community Games on Sunday

The Kilgefin local athletics competition will take
place on Sunday 8th May at 3pm in St. Faithleachs GAA grounds. There
will be Track, Field and Novelty events for all the family. Please come and
join in the fun.

Sympathy

We
would like to extend our deepest sympathy to Theresa and Tommy Donlon, Moher,
on the death recently of Theresa’s brother Paddy McDaniel, Sligo.

Children’s Fishing Competition

Last
Saturday Lanesboro Pike Fishing Club held a competition for primary school
children on the hot water stretch of the Shannon.  16 children took part, there were a lot of
fish caught and everyone had an enjoyable day out. 1st place was
Jack O’Loughlin with 1lb 14oz, 2nd place was Elizabeth Clyne with
1lb 8 1/2oz, 3rd place was Emma Donohoe with 15 3/4oz and 4th
place was Molly Farrell with 15oz

Lough Ree Athletic Club

Co.
Championships
:
Lanesboro’s all-weather track was the venue for the Co. Championships (U9, U10 and
U11) age groups. The 30th April was early for theses championships as
the club only moved outdoors last week and the Connaught championships are
fixed as far back as the 11th June in Sligo. However, many of the
club’s youngsters rose to the occasion and got into the medals.

The
results are as follows; Roscommon County Champions – U11 Long Jump Liam
Ross, U11 Ball Throw Bryn Peters, U10 60m Shane Prior, U10 500m Seadna Ryan,
U11 60m Orla Keane, U11 Ball Throw Ciara Healy and U9 300m Áine Kiely.

Silver
medals went to Liam Ross U11 Long Jump, Bryn Peters U11 600m & Long Jump,
Richard Prior U10 Long Jump, Óisín Kenny U9 300m, Harvey Myhill U9 Ball Throw,
Ciara Healy U11 60m, Orla Keane U11 600m, Lucy Ann Myhill Long Jump, Louise
Costello U9 300m and Emma Diffley U9m Ball Throw.

& activities was held at St. Faithleachs GAA Club Grounds on Easter Sunday.

Thanks to Emma Donlon, D.J. for the Kids Disco & to Jimmy Hussey for the
