will be delighted to hear that there is a 5k run in Lanesboro on this Wednesday

run is hosted by Lough Ree Athletic Club but is organised by Roscommon County
Board of Athletics Ireland.  This is the
final run in the 5k Series and is the first adult 5k run in Lanesboro for a
while.  The event is designed to cater
for everyone aged 18 or over, regardless of experience or fitness level and
will allow participants to get an accurate time for 5k on a suitably flat
course measured by an official from Athletics Ireland.  We have been advised the course is a fast course
so anyone seeking a good time or a personal best for 5k this is your
chance.  Entry is on the night and costs
€10.   Registration takes place from 6pm
onwards at the GAA Clubhouse in Clonbonny.

Clonbonny up the line and returns along the Longford Rd, turning right at
Cullen’s Filling Station with the finish at the entrance to the Clubhouse.  All are welcome.

Death

The area was saddened to
learn of the death at the Sacred Heart Hospital on Sunday 11th
September of Michael Enright, Cloontuskert. Mick as he was more commonly known
was a native of Foynes, county Limerick who many years ago came to live in
Cloontuskert and work with Bord na Mona. Mick worked diligently with Bord na
Mona until his retirement where he was a very popular figure. He was a man of great
dignity and had a tremendous warm nature as was witnessed by everyone that had
the pleasure to know him. He was a loving and caring husband to his wife
Pauline where nothing was too great for him. The attendance at the reposing of
his remains at the Sacred Heart Chapel on Monday and again at his Requiem Mass
and interment to Cloontuskert cemetery on Tuesday bore testimony to the esteem
in which he was held. To his wife Pauline, sons Paul and Denis, daughter Mary
Margaret, brother Jim, relatives and many friends we extend our sincere sympathy.

Saturday 15th October. Local girl Helen Feeney will once again be
stepping into the ring on this charitable night and she is seeking your
generous support. This year the designated charity is Canteen Ireland which is
a nationwide support group for young people that have or had cancer. The
thought of a young person suffering with cancer does not bear thinking about
and if you contribution can be of some help then you are doing tremendous work
for these young people. There is a sponsorship card on the counter in O’Brien’s
shop and please donate whatever you can.

Lanesboro Community Games

The
AGM of Lanesboro Community Games will be held next Tuesday night 27th
September in the Co-Op at 8:30pm. All Families in the parish with children
under 16 should have received a Registration form for Community Game in the
last week. This new initiative will enable parents to register their
children’s interest in partaking in the many activities offered in Community
Games.  This information will be used to plan entries into events and as
one of the communication methods to co-ordinate teams etc. so it is a
requirement that they are returned to committee members or at the AGM.  In
addition to this, Lanesboro Community Games committee will be requiring
increased parent support in 2011/12.  This will require only minimal
commitment as it is certainly a case of “many hands make light work”.  If
we do not have parent support we will not be able to participate in as many
events as we would hope.  While we had a great year in 2010/11 we are really
trying to build on this success and ensure that as many children as possible
are facilitated in taking part in the 2011/12.

disappointed with our recent Tidy Towns result. There is no indication as to
why we remained on last year’s result. We will continue to do our very best for
2012 .The Co-op thanks all of those who helped during the year and encourages
us all to support the effort during the coming year. We congratulate the great
