St. Patrick’s
Day Parade

As
we have turned into the New Year the time has come to think about the St. Patrick’s
Day Parade in Lanesboro Ballyleague that will take place on Saturday 17th
March.  Now is the time to turn your
minds to the makeup and preparation of your floats. Last year was an
outstanding success and the committee are urging everyone to make this year
even bigger and better, not only as a celebration of our saint but also a
celebration of the local area.

The
evidence of the past few years is that huge crowds come to the Lanesboro
Ballyleague to celebrate with us on our parade and we always need to continue
and develop to encourage greater numbers to participate and come and make the
day hugely enjoyable.

Death

The
death took place suddenly on Saturday 14th January at the Mater
Hospital, Dublin, of Sean Hyland, Aughranna, Lanesboro. Sean was from a very
old and respected family in our parish. Sean of farming stock also spent his
working life with ESB until his retirement. Following his retirement Sean moved
to work in Dublin where he spent some years before moving back to the parish.
The attendance at both his removal from Farrell’s Funeral Home to St. Mary
Church On Tuesday and again at his funeral Mass and burial on Wednesday in
Rathcline cemetery was both large and representative. To his children Martin,
Michael, Patricia, Frances, Anita and Donal, sisters Kate, Anne and Gaye,
brothers Mickie and Liam, wife Mary family and friends we extend our sincere
sympathy.
