19th February. Your support will be most generously appreciated.

Lough Ree Athletic Club

It was a busy weekend for the Athletic Club with the
County Community Games Cross Country in St Mel’s on Saturday and the All
Ireland B Cross Country and Relays in Boyle on Sunday.  Good performances were recorded by Clodagh
and Cait Kiely representing Killashee and Lucy Ann Myhill who all managed to
secure a place on the County Team for the National Championships in Athlone in
a race that was won in a convincing manner by Emily McCarthy, Killoe.  Also competing in the girls race were Áine
Kennelly and Orla Keane. We were very thin on the ground with the boys but
Seadna Ryan and Ronan English performed admirably in conditions that did not
suit them as they are both track and field athletes.  We were missing a few boys but then the day may
have been a bit too wet for them.   Full
credit to Ardagh for having a slew of runners out on the day, they had the most
competitors with a total of nineteen and it is a shame that other areas did not
take this competition more seriously. While Longford will be represented in
Athlone it is a pity they will not be fielding their strongest team

On Sunday Isobel Farrell in the under 14 Age
Group  and Caoilinn Flood and Orla Keane
in the Under 12’s represented Roscommon in the All Ireland Cross Country Relays
on a tough cross country course in Boyle.
The three girls acquitted themselves well and all of them will still be
eligible for their respective age groups next year.  As usual our boys were thin on the ground,
but then again it was a wet day.  Carmel
Fannon, a former club member was in attendance at Boyle with her off spring
that were competing but unfortunately we did not get to meet her.

Congratulations to another former club member Victoria
Occunivich who featured on Take Me Out on TV3 on Friday last.  It was great to see Victoria on the box and
great credit is due to her for a number of reasons – In the first instance, for
the confidence to apply for the show, then for being selected to appear and
finally for being successful as the girl the guy wished to take out.  Victoria has a great personality and it showed
in her being selected as the date.   We
trust she has a great time!

Rehab Bingo Winner

Last week proved a lucky one for popular local man
Mike Hanley, Cashelbeg when he was the lucky winner of the Shannonside Rehab
radio bingo. Mike was the outright winner and claimed the €2,000 on his own. We
congratulate Mike and wish him much more success.

Lanesboro Bridge Club

The results of the competition held on Wednesday night
last 8th February are; 1st Phil Chalmers & Cyril
Hussey, 2nd Elish Gray & Gemma Douglas, 3rd Mairéad
Gill & Maura Hanly and 4th tie Noreen Dunne & Mae Casey and
Frank and Frances Brennan.

The Parish of Rathcline can avail of any PAYE tax
payer that contributes to the Church over a 12 month period. If you are
interested in helping out you are invited to take a form from the Church porch.
Donal Casey will attend after mass on Saturday and Sunday of next weekend and
answer all questions in relation to the submissions of the forms. You are urged
to seriously think of helping your parish especially at this time when the
major church renovation will be taking place from April.

Rathcline Ladies GAA

Registration for the ladies club
will take place in Clonbonny on Sunday morning next 19th February at 12.30 for
all age groups Under 12 upwards. Could all players for the coming year please attend?  The
club invites all ladies that are interested in playing football to come along.
There are a number of ladies within the catchment area that are available to
play and in order for the club to develop from last year’s successes they need
everyone on board. The club is once again climbing back to the top where it was
for many years and the efforts will only be achieved through hard work and the
support for every team from the entire area.

Congratulations to the girls on the
Longford Ladies Team who drew with Antrim yesterday.

Birth

Congratulations to Liam and Melanie Donoghue, Lehery
on the birth last week of a baby girl.

Thank You

PJ Maher would like to express his sincere gratitude
to everyone that supported and took part in his fundraising events for his trip
to Kenya. PJ will depart these shores on this Wednesday and we wish him a safe
and successful journey. PJ would like to thank everyone that turned up and
participated in the Peer Inn for his ‘Take me Out’ night, Jimmy and Breda
Brennan, for the use of their premises and also to Mark Casey for acting as MC
on the night. The table quiz in Adie’s was also a great success in aiding PJ
reach his target and he would like to thank everyone for attending, Adie for
the use of his premises and Margaret Gillen for acting as a great quizmaster.

Rathcline Ladies Clothes Collection

Last
autumn Rathcline Ladies had a clothes collection which proved to be a great
success. The club have now taken on this collection on an on-going basis. The
club is seeking clothes, sheets and curtains and the likes. The clothes they
are seeking is not the good resalable clothes that charity shops can avail of but
all older clothing, If you have any of the above at any stage during the coming
year you can drop them off at 51 The Green or to make arrangements phone
086-1500123.

Lanesboro Community Games

This
was a very successful week for the community games, with three teams winning
county finals and a Lucy Anne Myhill gaining a place on the county U-12 relay
team.

Table
Tennis

Our
Boys U-16 Table Tennis team overcame Ardagh on Friday night to gain a place in
the county finals on Sunday.  In the
final, they met a strong Newtowncashel team but succeeded in winning with a
score of 4-2 in the singles; therefore avoiding the need to play doubles
matches.  The team was made up of Kevin
Sorohan, Jordan Donlon, Ryan Guinan, Ethan Kelly and Conor English.

Chess

Our
U12 Chess team faced formidable opposition of Longford South in their county
final.    Lanesboro nudged ahead early in
the tie through a win by Brian Casey,
with Dúileach Ryan and Conor Sorohan also wining their ties for
Lanesboro, however Longford South won games to equalise.  The result then hinged on Evan Chalmers to
gain something for Lanesboro from the last match being finished.  Evan won his tie giving the victory honours
and great excitement to the team that also included Séadhna Ryan, Gerard Kenny
and Sean Kenny.    Longford South were a
made up of a lovely team and the real success was to meet children of other
areas and enjoy the game together – See photos of all both teams together.

The
U-16 Chess County Final was an all – Lanesboro affair with our two teams
playing off to be county champions.  The
more experienced team won out in this tie but all the game were very
tight.  The winning Lanesboro team was
made up of Daniel O’Reilly, Mark Lyons, Philip Chalmers, Lara O’Sullivan and
Aaron Farrell, the runners up team was made up of Aisling Casey, Brian Lyons,
Cillian Flood, Conor English and Sean Casey.

Cross
Country

The
event to select the County Cross-Country and Mixed distance relays took place
on Saturday.  The wet weather and clashes
with soccer matches did not help the attendance from Lanesboro; however the few
children who did take part did very well.
Lucy Anne Myhill Orla Keane, Amine Connelly, Seadhna Ryan and Ronan
English took part in the boys and Girls U-12 races and all did very well.  Lucy Anne ran superbly to gain a place on the
county Relay with a number of the other children just missing out by one
place.

Well
done to all the teams
