St
Patrick’s Day Parade Launch;
The launch of
this year’s parade will take place in Sorohan’s on Friday night next 24th
February at 8.30pm. The committee invites all for what should be a great night
and the beginning of the excitement of another St. Patrick’s Day Parade in
Ballyleague and Lanesboro.

Horse
Fair and Dog Show

Preparations
are well underway for the celebration of the Lanesboro Traditional Horse Fair
that takes place on Saturday 3rd February. The committee are
currently liaising with the Gardaí and putting all the necessary structures in
place. The committee are also expecting the usual support of locals
volunteering to help out on the day. There will be a meeting for stewards in
Adie Farrell’s on the week of the Fair and there will be a note of time and day
on next week’s notes.

Rathcline
Ladies Registration

The
final call for registration of all ladies footballers will take place in
Clonbonny on Sunday next 26th February at 2pm. It is extremely
important that all ladies of all age groups make the effort to attend on
Sunday.

New
Flower Shop

Inside
the last fortnight a new flower shop ‘Buds to Blooms’ opened its doors on Main
Street opposite Orla O’Brien’s chemist. We wish them every success and many
years of successful trading.

Lanesboro
Community Games

Local
competitions will be held for Hand Writing, Art and Table Quiz
next weekend.  Hand Writing for U-10 and Art U-8,U-10,U-12, U-14
and U-16, Separate boys and girls competitions will be held in the co-op hall
on Saturday 25th February at 3.30pm.  There will be medals for winners in
each category.  Paper will be provided – €2 entry fee.  The
competition to select the U-14 Table Quiz teams will be held on Friday 8pm
24th February.

St.
John’s Candles.

Already
there has been a great uptake on the sales of the commemorative candle with an
imprint of St. John’s Church emblazoned on the candle; the committee would like
to thank everyone that has responded so positively. They can be bought at €7 in
O’Brien’s, Gareth Johnston’s Health Bank or from any member of the committee.

This
is a very special year for the congregation of St. John’s Church as they
celebrate 150 year of their church on the weekend 20th April where a
number of events will take place throughout the weekend. The committee is still
seeking any memorabilia, artefacts or old photographs relating to St. John’s
church. There has been an excellent response to this call and it is great to
see such a great response.  If you have any material relating to the
Church please contact Philip Mc Garry, Gardenstown or Tora Crooke, The Green or
any member of the congregation

St.
Faithleach’s Celebrate

Congratulations
to everybody connected to the marvellous development of their club grounds in
Ballyleague. It is a credit to all concerned and that the honour of Club
Grounds of the Year, bestowed on them by the Connaught Council is only due
recognition to the fabulous work that has been and is continued to be done. The
award was presented to the club at an awards evening in the TF Royal Hotel
Castlebar last week.

There
was further glory and recognition for other members of the St. Faithleach’s
club on the night when Ollie Kelly received an award in the FBD league category
and Paddy Neilan  received an award in the junior club football
championship.

Ladies would like to thank everyone that generously contributed to their church
gate collection in Lanesboro and Newtowncashel last weekend.

St.
Patrick’s Day Parade

There
will be a meeting for everyone involved be they, entrants, stewards, and clubs
and associations involved in the parade in Adie Farrell’s Bar on this Wednesday
22nd February at 9pm. It is important that as many as possible
attend this meeting as there will be many relevant and important issues
discussed. The committee is well under way with its preparations for the St.
Patrick’s Day Parade in Ballyleague and Lanesboro. They are encouraging
everyone that are putting floats into the parade to be inventive and creative,
making 2012 a very special year in the celebration of our community.

The
schedule for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade is as follows; The day will commence
with a Tradition Mass in St. Mary’s Church Lanesboro at 11.30am. At 2.30 from
St. Faithleach’s club grounds the parade will wind its way onto the main road
and up through Ballyleague crossing the bridge in to Lanesboro and will
continue to Lanesboro Community College – refreshments will be served for all
participants in the college following the parade. There will be prizes for the
following categories: Best Window, Best Junior Float, Best Club Float, Best
Business entrant, Best Overall Float and Most Original Float. Activities on the
day will be pig roasting by our local butcher Terry, face painting and music by
our very own and wonderful ‘Actin de Magot’

There
will be -a draw on the evening of the parade for €1000 in prize money and
tickets are now available in O’Brien’s or from any committee member.

Storytime for 4 to 6 year
olds will be held in Lanesboro Library on Saturday 10th March from
12 to 1pm.

Walks

Irish Wildlife Trust has
just announced their schedule for the year and would like to invite anybody with
an interest in wildlife to go along and join them on their walks. If you have
an interest in wildlife and you want to get involved you are invited to contact

Shannon
Gaels

The
minor team got a walkover on Sunday last when the opposition failed to turn up.
Training for all minors will take place on this Sunday morning at 11am. Under
16 team will be out on during next week and a full turnout of all players is
expected. Under 14 training will commence in the coming weeks so all players
are asked to be prepared for the first get together of the year. There are no
games for any team this weekend.

Good
luck to the senior Scór when they travel to Ballinamuck on Saturday night next.
The club will be represented by ballad group, solo singing and quiz teams.

Registration
will continue in the near future and all parents are asked to ensure that they
have their young people registered for the coming year.

Bridge Club

The
results of the competition held on Wednesday last 15th February are;

The
pairs competition previously cancelled due to poor attendance has noe been
rescheduled for the 7th and 14th March.

Faithleach’s GAA

Connacht
GAA Awards 2011: St. Faithleachs GAA Club was awarded the ‘Club Grounds of the
Year – Roscommon’ at the Connacht GAA Awards Ceremony held in the TF Royal
Hotel, Castlebar on Friday last. Chairman, Frank Curley & groundsman, Henry
Kenny accepted the Award on behalf of the Club. A huge Congratulations to all
those who have supported & participated in getting St. Faithleachs GAA club
grounds to where they are today. A fantastic achievement and a fitting reward
for the club and all involved with special thanks to all who contributed,
giving their free time throughout the year and to the St. Faithleachs GAA Club
Field Committee. Congratulations also to Ollie Kelly & Paddy Neilan who
received Awards in the Connacht GAA Final Referees Category, 2011 – Ollie
Kelly, FBD Football Referees Award & Paddy Neilon, Junior Club Football
Championship Referees Award.

Minors:
Minor League starts this coming weekend. See fixtures for details of upcoming
game.

Rose
of St. Faithleachs: The annual St. Faithleachs GAA Club Rose Night takes place
on Saturday next, 25th February in the Club House. Final preparations are now
in place & it is hoped to have your support for all the local Ladies taking
part on the night. A great night’s entertainment promised with Music &
Refreshments on the night. Admission €10. Doors open 9.00pm.

50th
Year: 2012 brings a very important year for St. Faithleachs GAA Club as we
celebrate our 50th Anniversary. This is an exciting time for the Club &
Parish. In an effort to complete a history of the past 50 years of the club we
are looking for your help. There are many photographs & artefact from down
through the years which we would dearly love to see. If you, or anyone you know
may be in possession of such items, please contact a member of the Committee or
email us at stfaithleachgaa@gmail.com.

Lotto:
The numbers drawn were – 5, 6, 8 and 22. There was no jackpot winner and the
five €20 winners were – Eileen Mullins, Moher. Ann Donoghue, Weekfield, Edward
Moran Gardenstown. Liam Connerton, Lanesboro, the Neilan Family,
Ballyglass.  The next draw will take place on Tuesday 28th
February for a jackpot of €5,400.

Cards:
Every Tuesday in the Club House, 9.00pm. All welcome. Results of last week’s

Upcoming
Events:  Colm Mulligan plays in the Club House on Friday 16th March. St.
Patricks Day Parade – Once again St. Faithleachs GAA Club will be having a
Float in the Lanesboro/Ballyleague St. Patricks Day Parade & we would
appreciate your help & support. For anyone interested in organising or
participating in a Drama Group within St. Faithleachs GAA Club, please contact
us.

Membership/Registration
Night: 2012 Membership/Registration Night takes place in the Club House on
Friday 24th February. Adult €40, Student €20, Family €80. New Members always
welcome.

Women’s
Mini-Marathon: Calling all the ladies who would be interested in taking part in
the Mini-Marathon in June to raise funds for the Development of the new Stand @
St. Faithleachs GAA Club. Your efforts & support would be greatly
appreciated.
