Schoolboys Finals

The past two weeks seen the two schools in the parish, Fermoyle and Lanesboro Primary School, in the Schoolboys Finals in Pearse Park. It was a marvellous achievement by both schools to have teams in the running on finals day. Lanesboro Primary school has only recently entered the schoolboy’s competitions and for the school they are making remarkable ground and their past couple of year’s bears testimony to their efforts.

Fermoyle are old hands at the schoolboy’s competitions but this was the first year that they had the numbers to compete in Division 1 against the big schools of the county. Their achievements in reaching the final was a wonderful achievement,

Unfortunately their day in the sun was dampened by Mullinalaghta, who beat Lanesboro and Killoe who beat Fermoyle. Although defeated they went out fighting to the very end and it was a tribute to their coaches that both schools were prepared so well.

The Lanesboro Primary school panel was Dean O Reilly, Cian Glennon, Jakub Kajan, Seadna Ryan, Brian Casey, Kevin Tansey, Rebeka Stavuse, Keith Irwin, Con Casserly, Mechal McCarthy, Óisín McGowan  and John Mc Cormack Glenn.

The Fermoyle panel was Shane Prior, Sean Kearney, Ronan English, Richard Prior, Daniel Curran, Killian Flood, Eoin Murray, Padraig Sorohan, Cronan Flood, Connell Kennelly, Sean Maguire, Cian Gilmore, Aaron farrell, Harvey Myhill, Eanna Mc Grath, Luke Lisle, Jack O’Loughlin, Oran Wyse, Bryn Peters, Gordon Farrell, Sean Kenny, Liam Ross, Oran Kenny and Mark Dowd.

“It’s a long way from Clare to here” Well it’s a lot longer to Cork, the venue for this year’s All-Ireland Athletic Finals for the U9 to U11 age groups. Róisin Brennan and Saute Bulotaite were representing the club in the U10 Ball Throw – an introductory event for the Javelin. This competition is a team event (2) and was listed for 10.30am on Saturday morning, making it necessary to travel down on Friday evening.

The story behind this is interesting. Róisin and Áine Kiely qualified for Connaught as the third team in the Co. Roscommon championships. Brennan opted for Galway, while Kiely decided to represent Killashee in the Co. Longford Community games in Ballymahon. At short notice the club got a substitute in Elizabeth Eglite. Both girls upped their performance Róisin improved from 11 to 14 plus m while Elizabeth also threw over 14 metres. Added together it was good enough to win and qualify for Cork. Great excitement! then the bad news!!

Elizabeth our Latvian lass was going on holidays on Friday last and not to disappoint the Lisnacusha girl the club turned to Lanesboro Primary school for a replacement. The girl we had in mind was not interested but Latvian Saute was and could throw the sliothar.  Róisin now had a teammate and both girls the club and parish proud. They finished in 7th  of fifteen qualifiers (4 provinces and Dublin) with both girls getting out over 15 metres for the first time. One could not ask for better! Great girls and bring on 2013 and  the U11 Ball Throw.

Cúl Camps

As school holidays are almost upon us our focus now changes to our local Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp. As in previous years these camps provide boys and girls – between the ages of 6 and 13 – with an action-packed and fun-filled week of activity during the summer holidays which revolves around maximising enjoyment and sustaining participant involvement in Gaelic Games while also supplying each child with a full kit and gear bag. This year our local camp will take place again in Clonbonny from Monday 30th July to Friday 3rd August. Numbers have been strong in our camp over the past number of years and we hope that this year will exceed all previous years and break all records. Let your kids be part of a wonderful week in Clonbonny.

Discounted bookings can be availed of by visiting www.gaa.ie/kelloggsculcamps. If you are considering sending your son/daughter to a camp this summer we would definitely recommend a Kellogg’s GAA Cúl Camp. The first draw of the Club Rathcline Scheme will take place on July 21st. The club would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the rescheduling of the draw. Members of the Executive will be present in Clonbonny on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening of this week from 8pm to 9:30pm to both receive outstanding money and subscriptions. Thank you to all those who have subscribed so far and if you haven’t subscribed yet we would greatly appreciate you signing up and supporting the club. . Each year, the club are required to repay €20,000 to the Credit Union after the redevelopment of Clonbonny. The aim of the Club Rathcline Scheme is to raise funds to pay off this loan, to ensure that the club can still afford to field teams and represent the parish. While we appreciate that the €100 fee may seem high, it works out at roughly €2 per week and with weekly draws, there is a high chance of winning a prize. Tickets can be bought through a member of the Executive.
