Well done to G. Hand who took top prize at a recent Olympic Trap event on a score of (97/100)

We are hoping to run a day out in the near future for the club, any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated, please contact committee.

Bord na Mona and ESB

Following the turmoil of last week, the situation at Bord na Mona seems to this writer as clear as mud. What we do know is that 78 seasonal workers will finish their work on Wednesday next, the 72 permanent workers will not now be laid off until the power station comes back and will be put at other duties. The power station has ceased production of electricity and there is no date for a return.

There is now a growing local concern that the power station will not fire again and all jobs within Lough Ree Power and Bord na Mona will be lost. While we all know the future of ESB and Bord na Mona is on a diminishing timescale the shock at the suddenness has taking us all aback.

On Sunday next 21st July the final Blessing of the Graves in the parish will take place in Lanesboro graveyard at 6pm.

Triathlon Outstanding Success

The staging of the Two Provinces Triathlon and Kidathon of Saturday and Friday last respectively once again proved to be an outstanding success. The events were ran so smoothly by an excellent committee that it gained huge acclaim from many seasoned competitors and new entrants.

It was ideal conditions for the competitors especially on Saturday while it warm and dry it was it was overcast and ideal for the three events. Participants travelled from far and wide throughout the country and even had some from abroad.

There should be no surprise at the management and delivering of the Two Provinces Sprint triathlon as from year one the organisation of the event gets better and better. There never yet has been an ordinary triathlon in Lanesboro. Well done to all the organising committee and a special word to the huge number of stewards that volunteered their time. A special word must also go the Gardaí who despite the pressure of the big games in Roscommon were on hand to help.
