Lanesboro Ballyleague notes Monday 25th November 2019

Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

The best in Ireland

On Saturday night last 23rd November in the Conrad Hotel Dublin Triathlon Ireland held its annual awards and presentation night. Lanesboro Triathlon club travelled in great numbers and with some hope of national recognition after being listed as one of the top six triathlon clubs in the country. The announcement was made early in the night that Lanesboro Triathlon club was the recipient of the Best Triathlon Club in Ireland for 2019. Great celebrations ensued and rightly so as Lanesboro Triathlon club is and has been so progressive since its beginnings in 2010. Club Chairman Cian Crosbie accepted the Triathlon Club of the Year award for 2019.

It has been the host of the National Sprint Triathlon Series for a number of years and their own Two Provinces triathlon each year in July and draws upwards of 600 athletes to compete in what is fast becoming the best Sprint Triathlon in Ireland such is the organisation.

Such is their progressiveness of the club is that they are the only Triathlon club in Ireland with their very own gym and meeting rooms. The gym was open just the other week to a large crowd of members and locals.

Membership has grown steadily over the nine year and last years initiative of couch to tri 2019 encouraged many more new members. Already this year new membership has grown greatly and there is no doubt following last Saturday nights award there will be a further increase in new members. Members come from our greater area, county Roscommon and all over such is the quality and respect of our local Triathlon club.

There is an excellent youth section to the club, and it is great seeing so many young people out taking part in the three disciplines and developing all the necessary skills involved in the triathlon.

The couch to Tri 2020 will be starting in the near future and it is a tremendous initiative to get people running, cycling and swimming.

I mentioned earlier progression and it would not have happened without the following people who were chairpersons and drove the club forward Ronie Masterson, Brendan O’Sullivan, James Gallagher, Fidelma Brennan and current Chairman Cian Crosbie. There are also a number behind the scenes (you know who you are) that have been the cornerstone of the club and never have left anything undone or to chance. There is a host of people that give of their time to help especially on Race Days, never have to be asked they are just there. Each and every one of you have made the club what it is today and each and every one of you must be congratulated on your efforts helping the club achieve such an award.

I would encourage anyone to get involved in this great club and be part of the great excitement in being involved and progression that is happening in Lanesboro Triathlon Club.

I had not seen any photograph, but I said I would put it out and see if a photograph may be available. If you have a photograph can you forward it to me, and I will scan it return it to you and pass on the copy. Alternatively, can you scan it and send it to me joeaobrien@outlook.com Thank you very much. The panel and management was Jacub Kajun his brother Misco Kajun, Max Webb, Kian Gilmore, Briain Casey, Oran Kenny, Dylan Glancy, Seadhna Ryan, Cillian Flood, Richard Prior, Éanna McGrath, Bryn Peters, Cronan Flood, Padraig Sorohan, Owen Murray, Daniel Curran, Harvey Myhill, Kevin Tansey, Dean O’Reilly, Óisín Kenny, Aaron Farrell, Ultan O’Sullivan, Conor Sorohan. The team is managed by Joey Rooney and his management team is Stephen Rooney, Shane Kenny, Seadna Ryan and Wayne O’Donoghue.
