Winter Time next weekend
You are reminded that next weekend will see the end of summer time and the beginning of winter time. You should put your clock back one hour on Saturday night as we sleep our way into winter time. After having terrible summer weather wise hopefully the winter will be a lot kinder to us.
The Gathering
We are at the beginning of a wonderful process. Already so many people have express their interest in the Gathering 2013 and some have come up with some tremendous ideas that will take working on.
The next meeting will take place in Adie’s meeting room on Monday week 5th November at 8pm and you are welcome to come along. Your attendance and ideas will be valuable and most welcome.
At the previous meeting the committee set August weekend 2013 as the date for the main event where many events will take place throughout the town and parish.
A Table Quiz will take place in Adie Farrell’s on Friday 23rd November and your support will be appreciated.
Birth
Many congratulations to Mark and Deirdre Kenny, Blenavoher on the birth last week of a baby boy.
Sympathy
We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to Mrs Nellie Ginty, her husband Phil and family on the death of her sister Mrs Molly Bowers, Mullaghavoureen, Longford during the past week.
Health and Wellness Talk
There will be a very educating talk in the Co-Op hall on Friday next 26th October at 8pm on the subject of Health and Wellness and the benefits of including Aloe Vera in your daily diet.

Play for Parish Hall
With the evenings drawing in, it is the time of the year for spending evenings out a many indoor events. The season will begin in Lanesboro on Saturday week Saturday 3rd November at 8.30pm when the Shannon Gaels Minor club is hosting another one of the award winning Seamus O’Rourke’s play ‘For Club and County – the making of our county team’ in St. Mary’s Parish Hall. Tickets are now on sale from the club executive of from O’Brien’s Corner Shop and Cullen’s filling station. Tickets cost only €10 each and with limited seating booking should be made immediately.
Luke Ming to judge Halloween Fancy Dress Party
The Halloween Fancy Dress party in the Lifebelt Bar on Saturday night next 27th October in aid of the Irish Cancer Society is already creating its own excitement. Numerous people are going to great lengths in preparing for the party. The best dressed will have a celebrity adjudicator in the form of Luke Ming Flanagan T.D. A marvellous night of craic and music by the excellent Actin Da Maggot will ensure-as usual- a great night and one not to be missed. There will be a prize fund of €1000. The tickets include entry to fancy dress and raffle and they can be bought in O’Brien’s or from the Lifebelt. The cost of the tickets is only €5. If you cannot attend there will be a draw for a number of prizes so you are encouraged to buy tickets in advance and support an exceptional cause.
Gun Club AGM this Friday
The AGM will be held at 9pm, Friday night next 26th Oct 2012 in Adie Farrell’s Meeting Room. All members are asked to attend to discuss important club matters.
Ballyleague Bingo
The Ballyleague bingo takes place every Thursday night in Ballyleague hall. You are reminded that the bingo start time has changed back to winter time with the first numbers called at 8.30pm. Come along and have a great evening and a chance of going home with some extra money in your pocket.
Clothes Collection
Rathcline Ladies clothes collection commences again and the club would encourage anyone with unwanted clothes, shoes sheets duvet covers books can you please contact Madaleine at 0861500123. The clothes collection will be collected from the club on Saturday 17th November and you are asked to have your donations in prior to that date. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
Sympathy
The death occurred suddenly last Wednesday at his residence in Cnoc na Gaoithe, of Mark Inglis. Mark only lived in our community for a short while. It is always particularly sad when a young person loses their life. Mark was a native of Naas, Co. Kildare. We would like to extend our sympathy to his mother Ann and the extended Mc Kenna family, his father Charles, brothers Michael and Alan, stepfather, stepmother, relatives and friends. His remains reposed at the residence of his father in Naas before being removed to the Church of the Irish Martyrs, Ballycane, Naas for his Requiem Mass. Following Mass his remains were removed to Harold’s Cross Crematorium.
Football Success
Congratulations to Gary Cox, son of Patsy and Olive Cox, who played a leading role in the Galway football championship on Sunday week past. Gary and his team mates on the Salthill/Knocknacarra had a tremendous victory over Tuam Stars which was televised on TG4. Gary had been a player who gave his all to his native St. Faithleach’s until his transfer a couple of years ago.
Lough Ree Golfing Society
On Saturday last, the 20th October, the Lough Ree Golfing Society travelled to Moate Golf Course for the second last outing of 2012. It had rained heavily all week but once again this year the society was blessed with an exceptionally bright sunny day. The sky was blue, the air was balmy and the brilliant sunshine reflected the autumnal splendour of the myriads of trees in this woodland paradise. It didn’t matter whether one played well or poorly: no one could not but be happy and content in the heart of Westmeath on such a glorious day! There were some very good scores over 16 holes despite the heavy conditions underfoot and the following were the prize-winners: Visitors prize: Aidan Grealish with a very good score of 33 points off a handicap of 8. Ladies prize: Justina Farrell; Back 7 hole prize: Peter Farrell; Front nine hole prize: Peter Day;
Overall prizes: 3rd was Brendan Whitty with 33 points for the 16 holes; 2nd Colm Dardis also on 33 points and the first prize with a great score of 34 stableford points for 16 holes was Aidan Cassidy. Well done to all and to all the others who played.
The next outing is to Strokestown on Saturday the 24 November at 10.30 am. This is also a Golfer of Year competition and all is to play for as there is only a 2 point margin between the top 2 contenders. Look forward to meeting you all there.
Rathcline Ladies GAA
Congratulations to the Rathcline Ladies Team on winning the Division 2 League Final on Saturday last against Colmcille Senior Ladies. The final score was 1-13 to 9 points. This was a great way to finish of a long and now successful year. Well done to Aoife Bannon on receiving ‘player of the match’. The ladies must be complimented for their efforts throughout the year – their efforts were magnificent as was that of Barry and James who really pushed the ladies. Having consolidated the clubs position this year, it is very important that the year ahead should be another step to the development of the club as a strong senior club in county Longford.
Ladies you were great and a credit to yourselves, your family and your club. Thank you.
Lanesboro Bridge Club
The results of the competition held on Wednesday 17th October are; N/S 1st Elish Gray and Gemma Douglas, 2nd Kathleen Reilly and Patsy Canavan, 3rd Noreen Dunne and Mae Casey. E/W 1st Una Lawlor and Brid Mc Dermott, 2nd Tom Feeney and Una Clarke and 3rd Frank and Frances Brennan.

Race Night with a difference
Midland Motor club will hold a race night – with a difference- on Sunday week 28th October in St. Faithleach’s GAA clubhouse. There is no charge on entry and the club welcomes and invites everyone. There will be 10 races on the evening with anybody in the audience being invited to race. The cars will be attached to string and winder and those invited will have to wind as fast as they can to take their car over the line first. It should be a wonderful evening of fun and excitement and one not to be missed. The first of these unique races will take place at 8.30pm.

Halloween Arts & Crafts at Lanesboro Library
Tuesday 30th October at 2pm you can create your very own Halloween masterpiece, all materials provided. Please book in advance as numbers are limited. Will suit children age 9 to 12 years.

Rathcline GAA
The Under 21 Championship begins on Saturday, with a home tie against Kenagh/Moydow. The game throws in at 4.30, and your support would be appreciated.
There was no winner of this week’s €1,700 lotto jackpot. The winning numbers were 2, 12, 15, 29, 34 and 35. The four random winners of €25 each were Noel Ward, Una, Mary, Nuala & Martha- Credit Union, Aidan Ganly and Seamus Nolan.
Knitting & Crochet Club

Minor Ladies Championship: Our minor ladies had a win over Kilmore in the 1st round of the D2 Championship on Sunday last. Final score: St. Faithleachs 2-09 Kilmore 2-05. The next game will take place on Bank Holiday Monday 29th October at home to Kilglass Gaels at 1.30pm.
Race-Night (Midlands Motor Rally Club): Midlands Motor Club will hold a Race-Night with a difference on Sunday next, 28th October in St. Faithleachs GAA Club House. There will be 10 Races on the night, with audience members invited to participate in each race. Racing cars will be attached to “Strings” & participants will wind each car in the race to the finish line. A wonderful evening of fun & entertainment is assured and not to be missed. There is no cover charge and all are welcome.
Cards: Every Tuesday in the clubhouse, 9.00pm. All welcome.
St. Faithleachs 5K Fun Run: The inaugural 5K fun Run/Walk will take place on Sunday 2nd December. If you have always wanted to try a 5K now is your chance. There are 6 weeks to go so now is the time to set yourself a goal before Christmas, lace up those runners and give it a go. St Faithleachs Fitness Challenge: Week 2 of the St. Faithleachs Fitness challenge was again a huge success due to the effort put in by all. Tuesday night’s circuit was a tough workout but everyone rose to the challenge. The mystery class from week 2 was by Marion Rimmer, who gave us a class in Laughter Yoga. There wasn’t a straight face or dry eye in the house as Marion put us through our paces answering phones, hovering and squeaking our arms. It was great craic and thanks to everyone for getting into the spirit of things. Sunday morning saw us take to the pitch again. Determination shone through even brighter than the glorious sunshine we had, and massive improvements were made on last week’s times. Thanks to everyone for the commitment they have shown. Keep up the hard work. 2 weeks down 6 to go!

Lough Ree AC
The Mercy Convent sports field in Roscommon town was the venue for the underage county cross-country championships on Sunday morning last. For a change the weather was pleasant, in fact it was a day for the outdoors.
Starting with the results; Anna Peters is the club’s only cross-country champion winning the U16 title. Oran Walton gave all a surprise by taking the silver medal taking second place in the boy’s U13 event. A silver medal also came the way of in-form Róisin Brennan in the U10 8oom for girls, where Caoilinn Flood moved up a gear and took the bronze medal for third place, her best performance to date as she was never as close to Róisín, who incidentally won the children’s race the previous week in Tarmonbarry. Indeed, the club was surprised that there were not more of the clubs runners taking part in the St. Barry’s road races as a Lanesboro native, Eddie Leavy, was very much involved in the organisation of the day.
Anna Maguire was a good 4th in the U10 C.C. event. Had the girls a fourth finisher they would have been in contention for medals. Aoife Nolan finished 3rd in the girls U11for bronze while Ultan O’Sullivan, fourth, finished just outside of the medals in the boys U12 while Bryn Peters could have done with support in his event.
Last week the club complimented the O’Malley/Chalmers combination and are still to the fore. Sunday last it was the Mc Loughlin’s from Kilrooskey that caught the eye coming second and third in the boys U10 race. Their aunt Caroline was a leading athlete with the club and represented Ireland at the world Junior Cross-Country championship in France in 1990 where she was the first of the Irish girls to finish. The clubs former athletes are certainly passing on their genes.
The club was disappointed with the turnout on Sunday and given the great day there was no excuse. There were some good individual performances. The club did not have a scoring team (4) in any event. There would be more than 20 involved in the training run in Clonbonny every Tuesday evening. Try to get them to a competitive race and most baulk at the idea- at least the lads do!! No doubt about it but it is the athletes themselves that are the losers.
B’Snug Café
B’Snug café is holding a Halloween party next Saturday 27th October from 12 noon to 4pm. There will be lots of fun activities for children including face painting and other treats. The café is now open for Sunday lunch from 11am to 3pm.
