Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes

Table Quiz Deferred

The Lanesboro/Rathcline Gathering 2013 committee were due to host Table Quiz in Adie’s Swan Tavern on Friday night 14th December. As the quiz was clashing with the annual Anthony Healy Memorial card game in Clarkes Bar the committee deferred the quiz in deference to the name of the late Anthony Healy. We would encourage everyone that possibly can to support the card game as all proceeds will go to the Roscommon Mayo Hospice. Tickets are on sale locally for the card game.

Anthony Healy Memorial Card Game

The annual memorial card game in the memory of the late Anthony Healy will take place on this coming Friday night in Clarke’s Bar. Anthony meant a lot to a lot of people in the area and it especially great to note that in death the funds goes to the Roscommon Mayo Hospice and help to comfort many people. He had a heart of gold and we hope that you will either come along to Clarkes or buy tickets that are on sale in local shops or in Clarkes Bar. The card game will start at 9pm. Buy buying a ticket you are supporting a wonderful cause and also in with a chance of winning a small quad. The quad is only powered by a small motor and battery and is suitable for a child of 5 to 10 years old.  Tickets are priced at €10.

Sympathy

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the extended Farrell family, Lisnacusha who suffered two bereavements over the past two weeks. Firstly, Joe Gallagher, Roscommon, whose wife is Phil (nee Farrell, Lisnacusha) and last week Bridie Connaughton, Dublin (nee Farrell Lisnacusha) died in Dublin. We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends.

We would like to extend our sympathy to the extended Connaughton family also on the death of Bridie Connaughton. Bridie was wife of the late Johnny Connaughton brother of the late Mike, Main St and Jimmy, Lehery.

Lanesboro Community Games

In the past week we participated in the first county final of Community games this year. The U-10 team performed excellently to win a tight Semi-Final match Vs Killoe B team.  The Lanesboro team, made up of Ernie Brunt, Dúileach Ryan, Shane Killian, Cillian Cox, Cormac Casey, Caoilinn Flood and Isobelle Smyth went on to compete Vs Killoe A team in the final and though they all performed very well, the experience of the Killoe team won out.  However this was great experience for all concerned and they will be looking forward to the same competition next year.  Both the U-12 and U-16 Chess teams will be playing in the county final Vs Ardagh in the next week – we wish them best of luck.

The Lanesboro entries for Art will need to be submitted to the County in the first week of January, therefore we will be running an art competition over the Christmas Break, however if anyone would like to have their picture considered, they can also give that through their school, before Christmas or to any of the committee.  So start Drawing – there are Boys and Girls competitions in every age group – u-8, u-10, u-12, u-14, u-16.
