Lanesboro Community Games

Last weekend was Indoor Soccer weekend for Community Games.  Lanesboro had 3 teams competing, two boys’ u10 teams and one boys U13 team.  The U-13 team took on Longford South in the first match and took a lead of 4-1.  However, having no subs is always very risky in indoor soccer and when Bryn Peters got injured; it could have been their undoing. Bryn swapped with goalie Eanna McGrath, and with their team mates Ronan English, Jakub Kajun, and John McCormack, hung on to gain victory and a place in the semi-final.  The team were reinforced with Cronan Flood and Richard Prior for the semi-final, but Clonbroney the eventual competition winners were too strong for the team. Thank you to Vinnie English for managing the team.

The first U-10 team made up of Cillian Cox, Niall Chalke, Callum Gordon, Conor Lyons and Jamie Hagan played great and quickly got on top of the complex indoor-soccer rules, but lost out to a strong Killoe team.  The second team made up of Shane Killian, Duileach Ryan (Goalie), Cormac Casey, Aaron Kenny and Jamie Farrell won their first match 1-0 Vs Ballymahon/Forgney, with Jamie scoring the goal for Lanesboro.  In their Semi-final match they took on Carrickedmond. Though it was another tight game, a strong performance at the back and super forwards helped Lanesboro to come through with a score of 3-0, with goals from Jamie and Cormac.  In the final they came across a very strong Longford-South team and went behind by 3 goals in the first half.  However the spirit of the Lanesboro team didn’t give-up and though they lost the match, they succeeded in pulling back to a final score of 3-2.  This was a great performance and all the children were happy with the day out.  Thank you to Mark Casey who managed both U-10 teams.

Notes will issue through the schools to children for the local talent audition which will take place at 5pm on 10 February to get Lanesboro representatives in the county final.  We hope we will get entries in some, or all, of the following events: Solo Singing, Solo Dance (Modern Disco), Group Dance (Modern Disco), Group Drama (Comedy Sketch), Group Music, Group Singing, Set Dancing.  All these events are U-14 – i.e. born after

31/7/1999 – also Solo Music (U-13), Solo Recitation (U-12) and Group Dance (Irish Contemporary) (U-12).  So if you have a talent at any of these disciplines and would like to perform, either individually or part of a group this will be the opportunity to take part.
