Lough Ree Athletic Club

The 40th AGM of Lough Ree Athletic Club was held in St Mary’s Parish Hall on Wednesday 23rd January 2013.

The elected Officers for 2013 are Fabian Walsh, Chairman and PRO, Susan Keane, Secretary, Margaret Mullooly, Treasurer and  Marie Peters, Child Safety Officer.  Antoinette Byrne was co-opted onto the new committee as Disability Awareness Officer, a position that we felt would be advantageous to the club while Eimear Donoghue is the Juvenile Officer.  It was noted at the meeting that on the 40th Anniversary of the Club and also the year of The Gathering, it might be fitting to organise a reunion of former club members and to combine this with a social for the current athletes.  Locals who use the track have commented on the maintenance work that has been carried out in recent times and the club is extremely grateful to Longford Community Resources and its workers for the all the work carried out to date to rectify the state of disrepair the track had fallen into over recent years.  We have spent many years trying to find help to help maintain this wonderful facility.  The club also thanked Longford Sport Partnership for its continued support of our activities and is aware of its involvement with other sporting bodies in County Longford .We nearly overlooked Rathcline GAA and Lanesboro Triathlon Club who when called on for the help in organising the Ros 5k Road Race Series came up trumps.  Votes of sympathy were passed to Tom Donlon on the recent death of his wife, to Michael Rodgers former club member on the death of his brother and to Frankie Shillingford another former club member on the recent death of his father and to those club members and supporters who have had bereavements during the year.   Training has resumed in Ballyleague Hall on  Tuesday nights and registration is now open for 2013.

Special meeting called by Ballyboro

Ballyboro for years had hoped to develop a major playing pitch with dressing rooms etc. and now after years of trying, the final touches to realising the dream has finally come. The executive, with managers of Ballyboro and Boro Celtic F C. have acquired land for development, with dressing rooms already built and parking already in place. Now the time has come for the parents to be fully informed and notified of this unique opportunity. So a meeting has been called for Clarke’s Pub on Tuesday, Feb 12th at 9:15 p.m. sharp. All questions in relation to the project will be discussed and debated. At the end of the meeting there will simply be a vote for or against the project. Every parent and interested party is expected to attend. There are no jobs up for grabs, just a simple vote. A poor attendance will be treated a straight No.
