Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes Monday 10th October 2022

Lanesboro Ballyleague notes

Death

Following a relatively short illness it was with the greatest of sadness we learned of the death on Wednesday 5th October at his residence in Doughill of Oliver Brehon. Oliver was predeceased by his parents Pat and Beatrice, brothers Joachim and nephew Cormac. His fight was bravely borne with great dignity, strength and courage. Oliver was a real family man, his life centered on his family. His quiet and considerate personality endeared him to everyone. He was a one of nature’s gentleman who great deeds will always be remembered by everyone that knew him. He was a qualified mechanic who had his own transport business at which he worked tirelessly. Oliver was a farseeing man and he had plans that we waiting to come to fruition until he was diagnosed with his illness one year ago. He would be remembered ar a tireless worker and a gentleman. He was renowned for with witty and funny retorts which made him wonderful company. The memory of Oliver will live long with everyone that had the pleasure to know him. The attendances at the reposing of his remains and again at his Funeral Mass and burial bore ample testimony to the esteem in which Oliver was held both within and outside our community.

His remains reposed at his residence on Thursday and Friday last until his Funeral Mass in St. Cecilia’s Church, Curraghroe on Saturday followed by his interment in Cloontuskert Cemetery. To his wife Margaret, sons Gary and Rory, daughter Laura, brothers Seán, Eamonn,  Tommy, Hughie, Anthony, Pauric and Liam, his sister Ann (Nolan, Mahoraveen), relatives and many many friends we extend our deepest sympathy.

Ladies County Final

On Saturday last our local Rathcline ladies football team took on Mullinalaghta in the county final in Killoe. The game seen Mullinalaghta take a convincing lead but our ladies were in no mood to let that affect their goal of victory. They recovered magnificently to go into a lead that looked like seeing them emerge victorious. However, Mullinalaghta had one final push in them and managed to emerge victorious over our heartbroken team.

Throughout the year the girls put in a tremendous effort in training and matches and it was particularly sad that they did not achieve their ultimate goal of victory. Well done to the panel and management for all their hard work all year.

Train how to use the Defibrillator

Defibrillators are devices that send an electric pulse or shock to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat. They are used to prevent or correct an arrhythmia, an uneven heartbeat that is too slow or too fast. If the heart suddenly stops, defibrillators can also help it beat again. That is the very reason that we need more and more people trained up in the use of this vital life saving device. The local defibrillator group is actively seeking new people in the Kilgefin, Ballyleague, Cashel, Killashee and Rathcline Lanesboro areas to become competent in the use of the Defibrillator. The group is also looking to retrain and refresh those that have already completed the course and need to brush up on its use.

If you are interested, please leave your name and phone number with Martina O’Brien personally in the shop or by phoning 086 3858934 or clynemartina53@gmail.com

Defibrillator Funding – Thank You

The Defibrillator Group would like to sincerely thank everyone that has contributed so generously to the appeal for funding to replace batteries and pads and the constant need to upgrade all the defibrillators.

The importance of defibrillators in the general area cannot be overstated. The lives it can save and has saved in recent times are well documented.

If you wish to contribute we ask that you donate by leaving money in an envelope marked with your name into Martina or Joe O’Brien at the Corner Shop.

The list was compiled painstakingly by Eamonn Bolger and it is a testimony to Eamonn to see players listed from 2000 right up to the present day.

A well taken Kyron Horohoe goal added to the score before Ballymahon got one back just before half time. Second half goals by Sean Donlon and Jay Flynn (a subtle header} secured the points for the Cougars. Squad:  Lee Carberry, Lorcan Vesey, Malachy Martin, Caolan McCann, Thomas Fallon, Luke McDonald, Dylan Featherstone, Niall Morgan, Sean Donlon, Kyron Horohoe;

The under 11 Tigers found Melview a tad too strong though the team tried hard and played some good football. Melview were 5-3 in front at the final whistle. Panel: Matthew Murphy, David Kenny, Tyler Murray, Ben Smith, Donncha Farrell, Cian Shea(1),Tom Hession, Darragh Shanley(2), Andrew Nolan.
