Lanesboro Ballyleague Notes
The Green – a living history
Death
This week we record the death of one of the younger residents of The Green, Ruairi Wyse, no 60. Ruairí suffered a brain hemorrhage at his home and the home of his mother a few weeks ago and passed away in Beaumont Hospital on Wednesday last 16th September. He was predeceased by his father Mick and brother Breffni. Ruairí was a quiet young man. He had a warm and welcoming smile and his greeting was always filled with great sincerity. In his younger days he was a great footballer and soccer players and played with Shannon Gaels and Boro Celtic for a time. His affable manner endeared him to everyone that came to know him. A measure of the popularity of this young was clearly visible by the attendance and heartfelt grief displayed at his funeral Mass on Saturday. Ruairí, in his short time in this life affected a lot of the hearts and minds of those he came in contact with. Ruairi’s family donated his organs and in death Ruairí will bring a new life for many people. He will be sadly missed by his mother Patricia, sister Grainne, brothers Ronan, Conor, Aaron and Jason and aa wide circle of friends to whom we extend our deepest and sincere sympathy. Ruairi’s remains were laid to rest in Cloontuskert.

We would like to extend our sincere sympathy to the family and extended family of the late Eileen Gray, nee Lynch, Dunard Avenue, Dublin. Eileen was formerly from Lanesboro and was sister of Hannah Eivers, Knock, and Margaret Maguire, The Green.

Cherishing a Dream
On Sunday 6th September a local youngster mark Dowd fulfilled a dream that every young child playing football or hurling aspires to. Mark was one of 20 young boys country wide that was selected to play in the Cumann na mBunscol INTO/Respect Exhibition Go Games in Croke Park on All Ireland Hurling Final day. It was a very special privilege for Mark’s parents, Stephen and Tina Dowd, Thureen and indeed for his family, Fermoyle School and club Rathcline. To have a young player from our parish on the hallowed grounds on All Ireland final day is a big honour and we would like to say a very big congratulations to Mark on his fabulous achievement.

Lough Ree Golfing Society
The Captains Prize outing (Michael Brennan) was to Birr Golf Club on Saturday 20th September on a beautiful Autumnal day. From Tee to Green the course was in wonderful condition. The mature native trees which lined the fairways were beginning to take on their autumn hue, it was fitting that in such idyllic settings it would take a truly remarkable score to capture Michael’s beautiful trophy. Fiona Gillen our honourable secretary did just that, with a truly remarkable 40 points. Minor prizes went to John Martin, Timmy Glynn and Harry O’Donnell. Front nine to Ronan Cullen and back nine to Jackie McDonnell. Ladies prizes were won by Bernie Taylor and Antoinette O’Donnell. John Martin won the nearest the hole on the second green. As this was the final outing for counting the Golfer of the Year competition, Timmy Glynn was declared the winner for 2015. The large turn out on the day was much appreciated by Michael and showed the high esteem in which he is held by the Society.
